Returning to teaching after a leave of absence has reminded me what a privilege it is to share learning with others, especially listening on as theory clicks with lived experience.
First feedback - from the esteemed Prof Sally Tomlinson- of my upcoming book on #alternativeprovision #capital and #youthjustice #SEND

#SEND paper. Whilst new funds are very welcome, how much money does that equate to for each school - a few thousand. I suspect school leaders inboxes will be full this morning with a thousand ways to spend it.
Up early to try to finish my book on #alternativeprovision - before it heads to the publishers. ๐ค#youthjustice

My father was raised in care (@Quarriers) until working age. I finally had a chance to look at what little notes there are of his 14 years there. Vivid insights into family life, poverty and the (lack of) standards of housing in a small industrial town, which led to the referral.

it was great to convene the first (working) Class staff/student event yesterday @uwebristolofficial.bsky.social One line that stuck out for me was "I am the first person from my #workingclass family to go to University and I worry I might also be the last".

Happy #InternationalWomensDay to all (working-class) women.
Lot's going on this week for me around #alternativeprovision, which has long been - and likely to long be - a contested space. Just finished the 2nd part of Joining the Dots (#SEND /#AP) with Prof. Sally Tomlinson, meetings with various stakeholders and a webinar by @apresearchnetwork.bsky.social
I am spending this evening examining the paperwork that gives some insight into why my father was made an orphan. Enlightening and quite shocking in equal measure.

It has been 6 years since the #disabled bad boys in #alternativeprovision paper was accepted for publication. Since then, AP has become a growing research area with these young people's voices as relevant today as they were then. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Coming to the end of a project evaluating the work of US office for #violenceprevention organisations. The last meeting was this evening with the Department of Violence Prevention in Oakland. Great to hear how they apply a public health approach to violence prevention.
