Congratulations to Matthew Stewart, who has just received an Award of Merit at RCN Congress, Liverpool. I’m delighted for Matthew. His work has, and is, making a real difference and we are very proud of him. This award is absolutely deserved, and we are delighted he has been recognised in this way.
Great to be back at Congress here in wonderful Liverpool - I remember my first Congress here as a student, lovely to come as a fully fledged nurse with a great career 7/8 yrs later - #RCN25 @rcn.org.uk
A quote card from Nicola Ranger: Thank you for bringing your skills to this country. I’m telling [the UK government]: Give people the security, respect and stability they need. Stop the game playing.
Professor Nicola Ranger, General Secretary & Chief Executive, is delivering her keynote address to thousands of members at #RCN25 today. She will tell our internationally educated members what the RCN is demanding the UK government do to properly value their contribution to health and care services.
Nursing staff make the best moments of someone’s life possible, and the worst moments bearable.
Join us in celebrating nursing staff everywhere – watch and share our film, and tell us why you agree nursing is worth fighting for.

It was a big day last week presenting my Ten Minute Rule Bill to #ProtectNurse. 💙
I was shocked that anyone can call themselves a nurse! So, my Bill would prevent misuse of the title - enhancing patient safety & ensuring respect for registered nurses.

Raising concerns about care in inappropriate settings Find resources on our hub
Patients being treated in corridors is widespread, but it must not be normalised.
If you're having to deliver care in inappropriate settings, raising a concern with your employer will help protect you and your patients.

Quote from Professor Nicola Ranger reads: We pulled out of the PRB process, alongside other unions, because it is not the route to address the current crisis. That has been demonstrated today. Fair pay must be matched by structural reform. Let’s open direct talks now and avoid further escalation to disputes and ballots – I have said that directly to government today.
Today the UK government recommended a pay increase of 2.8% for nursing staff in 2025/26, as little as £2 extra a day.
This is deeply offensive, detrimental to patients & contradictory to hopes of rebuilding the NHS.
We are calling for direct negotiations on pay - our full response: bit.ly/49Dn28s
🆕 | New Chair and Vice Chair of RCN Council have been elected. Carmel O’Boyle will lead our governing body with Natalie Brooks elected as Vice Chair.

We love nursing , society loves, respects and values nursing - we need this government to show they value us.
Quote card from Patricia Marquis, Executive Director of RCN England which says: For patients to feel that the NHS is improving over the next five years, the government must prioritise fixing the crisis in nursing. A fairly paid and safely staffed nursing workforce would transform care and positively impact the lives of millions.
Investment in nursing is key to achieving the Prime Minister's plan to cut NHS waiting lists.
His Plan for Change needs a plan to turn our profession around.
