I will never not be angry that we could fund every program that actually helps people if we defunded the police. We could house every single homeless person here. We could keep our social services and parks going, and maintain them better than we currently do. It makes me so, so angry.

To put that number into context, that proposed $19 million cut is loads more than Portland Street Services has ever seen, which operates on a shoestring budget.

From the ~$317 million it's getting this fiscal year. That would just bring it down to about ~298 million. That's still higher than any year in Portland's history, despite all the talk of cutting PPB's budget after the BLM protests of 2020. A 6% cut to PPB is a drop in the bucket.
