I love glow in the dark stuff but GloFish express the FPs all over, not like naturally fluorescent fish patterns. It looks blatantly artificial like dyed supermarket orchids or those poor Easter chicks.

Transgenic fluorescent fish in an aquarium
Transgenic fluorescent fish in an aquarium
I think transgenic pets and houseplants that just look cool are gonna become more common/socially acceptable. Remember the 2000s when GloFish were the world's first transgenic pet and now the poor little buggers are in every pet store on the planet
Transgenic bioluminescent petunias in plastic flowerpots
I'm chuffed about these bioluminescent petunias from Light.bio. They're branded "Firefly Petunias" although I suspect it's not FFluc, but one of the bacterial lux operons that encodes all necessary luciferase & substrate-synthesizing enzymes.

@failbettergames.com Gua Makam Penyu (Cave of the Sea Turtle's Tomb) sounds like something from fantasy fiction. I'm thinking of the #FallenLondon #SunlessSeas desktop spinoff game where there's an entire island that's the shell of a dead titanic turtle.

The blessing and curse of convincing people modern medicine works... Without education it's just substituting one kind of magic for another in their heads

I remember reading, when I was a kid (I was a weird kid), in "Where There Is No Doctor" that many people think injections are more potent than oral medicine, and that healthcare workers should learn to decline requests for unnecessary injections (paracetamol?!?)
These people do not care. 🤑💀👨🏽⚕️

Earth seen from Artemis II, reminiscent of the "Blue Marble" image.
The lunar surface occupies the left of the frame, while Earth in the background is mostly shadowed
Earthset as the Artemis mission travels around the moon.
Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. From the crew’s perspective, the Moon appears large enough to completely block the Sun, creating nearly 54 minutes of totality and extending the view far beyond what is possible from Earth. The corona forms a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk, revealing details of the Sun’s outer atmosphere typically hidden by its brightness. Also visible are stars, typically too faint to see when imaging the Moon, but with the Moon in darkness stars are readily imaged. This unique vantage point provides both a striking visual and a valuable opportunity for astronauts to document and describe the corona during humanity’s return to deep space. The faint glow of the nearside of the Moon is visible in this image, having been illuminated by light reflected off the Earth. Credit: NASA
We’ll be tracking the aerial assets in place to welcome the Artemis II crew home on Friday, but for the moment, just enjoy some of the amazing images captured by the crew so far. See all of the images posted by NASA at www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2...

Have you ever heard of breast ironing?
This week, while taking part in a 4-day free cancer screening initiative in Cameroon's South West region, I was reminded of the horrors it causes and why we need to talk about it.
🧵 A thread.
A new study in Nature Microbiology reveals that an eye condition called POH-VAU (persistent ocular hypertensive viral anterior uveitis) is caused by covert mortality nodavirus (CMNV) - a virus that's been devastating shrimp farms for over a decade.

This is ludicrous and scaremongering. Malaysia has relatively low TB. You're far more likely to pick up Covid or any of the other 1001 common cold viruses than TB at a social gathering.

I am reviewing a simply amazing paper from a relatively young US-based lab, which is in danger of shutting its doors later this year. My emotions are all over the place.
The fact that this does not uniquely identify the lab I’m referring to just deepens the tragedy of this moment in US science.
Please read this.

I think the road to the current era of AI slop began when people started referring to any and all online media as "content"
China just reported a record annual trade surplus, of $1.2tn, despite President Donald Trump’s trade war.

What's tangentially interesting to me about this is that amongst men, it's _not_ the seed-sowing pronatalists who act like they actually like children.
Maybe it's got something to do with regarding women and children as fellow people, not incubators and clones.
It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.
It’s about oil and regime change.
And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.
