Bianco said when he takes over not when he's elected... That's how you know he's a Republican

I was taken by surprise that Steve Hilton is a limey, and I'll bet a lot of Californians were as well. That accent alone is going to cost him

I mean. They’d be innocent even if they WERE related, because that’s not how guilt works.

I'm watching the #CAGov debate, & all these answers on the gas tax are pitiful. Nobody came close to saying the reason gas prices in California are high: we have 100-year-old refineries routinely holding the state hostage, & branded gasoline is $1/gal higher than non-branded, which is theivery

Katie Porter would probably be the best governor of those on stage right now, but I'll take Xavier as well.

I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals

But seriously, I'm talking about people with actual power. The leaders of the party and mainstream punditry. Not posters

No, it's objectively good for democracy that both parties are doing it, for many reasons:

1) As you mentioned, it is the only path to get from "some gerrymandering" to "no gerrymandering."

2) Without it, the party that has leadership whose *stated goal* is ethnic cleansing and world war, would win

Dem leadership: changing this is a difficult process, you fool. You rube. You utter infant. Give us between $5 and $50

flipping through a proof of yet another book from a somewhat well known liberal voice diagnosing "where the left went wrong" and i'm struck, again, by the fact that a large part (if not most) of the liberal commentariat simply does not believe that the political right has agency.

if the right is successful, it must be because the liberals possess some fatal shortcoming or overreached in a way that mechanically produced backlash. the idea that the political right is its own thing with its own aims, can harness discontent and take advantage of contingency is verboten i guess

Centrists cannot assign agency to the right, or they would have to acknowledge that they too have agency and simply choose not to act.

And by choosing not to act, they allow right wing extremists to push the window of acceptable discourse and action rightward. Almost as if by design.

Side note: people really need to stop it with the algospeak. I cannot take you seriously if you refer to rape as "grape" in some quest to avoid something something "the algorithm."

This administration has absolutely destroyed the Justice Department. Prosecuting a storied civil rights organization for investigating white supremacist groups while vacating convictions for January 6th insurrectionists.

GOOD TO KNOW:
As California Attorney General, Xavier Becerra sued Donald Trump to stop family separation during his first term. As HHS Secretary, he rolled out programs to reunite unaccompanied children with their families.
