"what if a children's book series about child soldiers fighting in an interstellar war by turning into cool animals took every part of its premise relatively seriously"
Even if these "he's gone" rumors prove wrong, it's nice that we can share the hope like a family
something to keep in mind when there is a response on u.s. soil and it's suddenly verboten to even imply that it's a response
Actually we should just give citizenship to every undocumented person in the United States who wants it. Walking over an imaginary line isn't some great moral atrocity. Making people live in the shadows as a permanent underclass absolutely IS.
I Work Very Hard, And I Would Like To Try Cake By A Horse Hello. I am a horse. I work very hard at my job of being a horse. When humans say move the heavy thing, I move the heavy thing. When humans sit on top of me and pull on my head, I carry them where they want to go. The main food the humans give me is hay and oats. But I am thinking it would be nice to have a different food. I am thinking I would like to try cake. Yes, yes. Cake. I know all about it. When humans eat cake, it is in glad times. It is the food for a celebration, such as when a woman becomes 47. I have seen cake on the Fourth of July. When humans have a cake, they stand around it and clap hands and smile and say happy birthday at each other. Sometimes there are beautiful markings on a cake, such as balloons or a pink shape. Sometimes the top of a cake is on fire and a boy must blow on the fire with mouth wind. This is the scariest cake. I do not want this kind. But I will eat any other cake. Any cake that is not the fire cake that tries to kill the boy. Please understand: I do not get money for doing work. I do not get to go inside the house. All I am either doing my horse job or standing in my pen or eating food off the floor. I always do these things. But I have never once gotten cake and I would like it very much. I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children. I am more helpful to the farm. Children do not move the heavy things like me or let anyone ride on them. And yet they get cake. Maybe the humans will realize this. Maybe they will say, "You know who deserves cake? That horse. That horse whose back we are always on." Every day I dream about what it will be like if I get to eat cake. Here is what will happen. First, I will walk to the cake and putt my nose at it like hrrfff to make and stomping my hooves to make sure it is not a snake. Then I will trot in a circle to show that I am a horse and I am large. After that, I will nuzzle the cake to …
The horse op-ed is an instant classic. I can't tell you how much joy this piece gives me.
It should be taught in every introductory writing class in no small part because the horse arguments are so compelling. "I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children."
This isn't even the only good line, I cracked up at least three times reading this strip. This comic has been firing on all cylinders for a while now.
Literally nobody training AI models, not the "reputable" companies nor random idiots in sheds, has at any point ever respected any signaling whatsoever about this. These people don't respect robots.txt. We're supposed to think they're going to look at some protocol-specific record?
what do we want?

Trump to democrats, who may somehow still lose:
Before the election: No more pointless forever wars! America First!
After the election: Sorry there's no money to spend on America, we spent it all on pointless forever wars.
From looking at HN comments on the whole claude leak debacle it seems like the next line of defense for these people is to wholesale reject the notion of code quality or maintainability and assert that it's fine, good even, to be pushing LLM-written spaghetti to production
Ryujin was a fraction of a second from disaster before the music started and saved her from the motorboat brainworms
This makes me think about how there's a lot of shitting on students for asking AI questions they'd ideally ask a teacher or counselor -- and far less shitting on the politicians and conservative taxpayers not staffing teachers or counselors *who listen to them*
I rely on you (to see my posts about it and relay them)

Plant a Magic Tree. BG Quick! Choose one of the following options: • Draw a permanent. Then choose two cards. • Five people went missing as a result of the incident. • If the impact was two or less, all inanimate creatures on Earth would be completely destroyed.

So, AFICT the “reasonable” argument for LLM coding is if we persist through economic chaos and environmental crises while sacrificing the creative industries and education then models built using stolen data and license violations might safely revolutionise software dev productivity?
Someone accused me of being bisexual, not because they thought I was attracted to men but because they wanted to insult my driving. Does this count as biphobia
Part 1/4 of an 11-panel SMBC comic update. Two women are talking as they observe children playing in a fenced park. The bespectacled one of the two asks "at what age did you realize you weren’t special?" The other replies "probably around 28 or so. But it took a while to sink in." The first woman asks if the second woman has noticed that we tell kids often that they are special. When asked if she thinks this is bad, the bespectacled woman says that's it's not, it's just pointless. She adds "like, try to convince a 7 year old they aren’t special. They simply will not believe you."
Part 2/4 of an 11-panel SMBC comic update. The bespectacled woman continues to explain her point of view as the children play in the park. "Their lives are filled with fresh novelties that seem made for them alone. Let a kid see a new bug and you cannot convince them that anyone else ever saw it first. The universe created this entire species just for them to find it, today, right this second." She challenges the second woman to convince her she is special, to which the second woman replies "you really brighten up my life, sally." The bespectacled woman, named Sally, responds with "look! Look at you! You can’t even use new phrasing to describe me! You don’t have it, and if you did, I’m not worthy of it!"
Part 3/4 of an 11-panel SMBC comic update. Sally is agitated, and rants the following for the next 4 panels, with the last panel showing her smearing cake all over her face. She says "the worst thing is I'm only thinking about this because I'm upset about an email this morning. the most GENERiC modern problem I can imagine! my only hope is to rebel. To just do whatever no one has done because there was never a reason to do it before. I'm gonna cram brownies into my nose and run around making turkey noises! GYOBBA GYOBBA GYOBBA GYOBBA GYOBBA GYOBBA! GYOBBA GYOBBA GYOBBA GYOBBA GYOBBA!"
Part 4/4 of an 11-panel SMBC comic update. The kids previously playing in the park watch Sally run around. A boy asks "do all adults eventually go crazy?" A girl replies "it's pretty standard, yeah."
When I was a kid, I wondered why all adults are crazy. Now I wonder how any are sane.

It just seems like Wikipedia is the only website whose marketing strategy is threatening to kill itself if you don’t give them some money.
Two things are true.
1. Most *people* did not watch the launch live because shuttle launches weren't super popular TV by that point.
2. NASA had a huge PR campaign to get television broadcasts of that specific launch to be shown live in classrooms across the country, so many *kids* did watch live.

Every Democrat should refuse to vote to confirm any Trump appointee, on the grounds that Trump is an insurrectionist against the United States, and therefore is not a legitimate president, and therefore is incapable of appointing anyone to anything.
