I get up early and kind of love it—-especially in the summer!
The article, by @jessicalwarelab.bsky.social, @kkbugtime.bsky.social @annaeichert.bsky.social, @katieschmalz.bsky.social & @judemirghani.bsky.social, modelled habitat suitability and population structure to identify risk of localised extinction.

Systematic Biology’s March 2026 issue (75.2) is published! It features Laura Kubatko's 75th anniversary piece on species trees, along with a nice mix of empirical and methodological studies. Check it out: academic.oup.com/sysbio/issue...

Are you applying for the Mayr Award? Do you want to be considered for inclusion in a symposium?
You must register by April 15.
Looking for information on the Society’s sponsored events? They’re listed here: www.systbio.org/meetings.html
🎶It’s the final countdown! Abstracts due tomorrow!🎶
Our premier graduate student award symposium takes place during the virtual meeting. If you are doubtful about your ability to physically attend #evol2026, you can still put in an application. There are no geographic restrictions on this award!
Transgenic crops release Cry proteins into streams.
But what does that mean for aquatic insects?🌱💧🐛
We measured and barcoded 1,800+ caddisflies across 25 streams.
Environmental factors like temperature, land use explained most patterns. Cry1Ab had limited impact.

OMG. The LTER program is one of the best, most ambitious programs in ecology. It's 26 sites supporting science about the long-term and large-scale phenomena. Like: how does farming change soil over time? How do sites recover from disturbance? What makes a healthy river? etc. 💔💔
NSF LTER program “archived”.
LTER=“Long Term Ecological Research”.
This program has been incredibly successful, incredibly frugal for what they accomplish, and…of course…targeted by evil know-nothings.
My heart is breaking.
Our latest: Conflict in ant phylogeny results from complex interaction between multiple evolutionary signals and tree reconstruction artifacts.

I've just had a jaw-to-the-floor moment with this new paper from the Hines lab. They describe a yellow-white switch in bees, which maps to the same TF as the yellow-white switch in Colias butterflies, previously described by the @chriswheat.bsky.social lab. journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...
