Saw my very first antlion last night. Coincidentally, I’d been exploring the Neuroptera order earlier in the day with regard to lacewings, and when I saw the name ‘antlions,’ I thought, “hmm, never seen any of those.” 😅 Not the case anymore! Nature delivered.

a long-winged insect on a red brick wall. the wings are mostly clear with some black splotches. the head and thorax are more tawny-colored, with thin black legs spreading out along the wall. the antennae are dark at the ends but pink in the middle, and are stunning. Dendroleon obsoletus, an antlion widespread in the eastern US.
it may be a hundred degrees out for a week, but at least Dendroleon obsoletus exists
