I also have a tuta account, often recommended as another private alternate, but find its interface quite clunky. I especially don't like that you can't close all the emails in the inbox, so anyone reading over your shoulder can read the last one you opened.

Proton works. Make a free account and make sure it fits your workflow before paying them, though. I use it with addy.io so I can control spam (give every sender their own unique email address for me) and if I need to change services again, all I have to do is change where they fwd to me.

Property tax or sales tax, ANC has no new ideas. It needs money, the state is chipping in less, people are squoze at every level. When basic food and housing are eating all of our income, it's impossible to fund a city fairly OR effectively.

Rimefrost-growing weather!

Yeah they are. But I think it's even more problematic that the muni plans to provide "property tax relief" for the privileged by imposing a sales tax, hitting lower incomes even worse.

Well, they had to get that non-white person off the planes if they want to continue to please our ruler.

Of course you should dare! Decorated trees are the best cat toys EVER. Just be sure they're cat-safe ornaments. We have a whole set of soft ornaments that go around the bottom of the tree.

Isn't the idea that they can now be arrested and be prison-based slave labor?

"Province considering blocking overland transport of mainland U.S. goods through B.C. to Alaska, Premier says" means all of Lynden's traffic would have to go by ship to the port of Los Anchorage, except for ferry service to Southeast.

When do we stop saying the weather is "weird" and simply admit this is our now-normal climate chaos weather that a majority of Americans voted for?

My cat is furious at the clattering vent dampers and blasts of rain slamming into the windows.

Don't forget to write it all down as you go! Once you have a good solid sock recipe, making more pairs gets SO much easier.

A lot depends upon whether you're a process or product knitter. Do you simply want to knit, whether it makes something usable or not, or is knitting a way to an enjoyable piece? I find frogging the unusable really freeing: I learned something and eventually will have a cool thing I love!

Why keep knitting something that doesn't fit and will aggravate every time worn? Frog and restart: pick the needle to suit the yarn and the number of stitches to suit the foot! Knitting is flexible!

Well what DO you like knitting? Lace? Lotsa sock patterns with lace tops. Colorwork? Ditto. Cable? Intarsia? Jogless stripes? Brioche? I can't think of a style of knitting that someone hasn't put on the top of a sock. www.ravelry.com/patterns/sea... lists 1914 different sock patterns.

When I lived on a boat I stored all of the blankets and such in "throw pillow" covers along the settee. But this is next level!

Generic Toe-up Sock Pattern

Not terribly difficult, no. It's mostly two tubes, connected by one fussy bit, the heel, and ended by another fussy bit, the toe. I find toe-up/short-row heel easiest w/ no risk of running out of yarn too soon, try-on-as-you-go, and no need to kitchner. Try web.archive.org/web/20190428...

Probably more like contemplating doing you in. If action were immanent, the pupil would be more dilated. But at that point, it'd kinda be too late.

I've found that sitting on the back deck naked in the middle of the night in a snowstorm knocks those hot flashes right down. And it's kinda fun watching the snowflakes that land on you poof into steam. May make your neighbors nervous, though.

Alternatively, government-sponsored covid brain damage is really racking up a lot of influence as it's maturing in our population.

Well, yes, because apparently an awful lot of Alaskans care lots deal more about their personal wealth than the health of the state...even though leaving the state unhealthy ends up costing them more in the long run.

I've taken it from Seattle to Portland and it was SO much better than renting a car and driving!

Oh yes, we should obviously blame pedestrians rather than plow sidewalks or tell police to enforce traffic laws (like not driving through red lights) or penalize vehicles designed to make it impossible to see pedestrians ahead of you. /s

Yikes! Hope the bottom is nice soft mud. There's a well-wishing in the Netherlands to the effect of "may you always have a hand's-breadth of water under your keel." But yeah, sometimes that simply isn't available.
