these all look great!
The Saki barrels that are donated to the Shinto shrine.
The shrine with the steps I couldn’t go up without dying.
The Tori gate on the main approach to the Shinto shrine.
The bamboo forest around another Buddhist temple. You can do a matcha tasting in a little tea house in the forest.
More from Kamakura. It was the seat of the first Shogunate and you can see a lot in a relatively small area. Highly recommended if you ever have the chance. It’s a beautiful city.
The copper Buddha on a bright sunny day. You can actually go inside it.
This is a temple to a different aspect of the Buddha. You can’t take any photos inside the main shrine but there’s a large beautiful statue made of camphor wood.
Same temple but lower down the hill, it’s a cave with carvings and shrines. Some of the passages are low and you have to walk doubled over.
A large lovely Shinto shrine. I couldn’t see all of it because I couldn’t make it up the stairs to the upper part.
We’re having a fantastic time in Japan. This is all from Kamakura.
to both of you, same

There are some important things to remember in terms of Awards-shortlist day etiquette. A short thread.
Even folks I really like and respect make some blunders on this stuff.
1) Allow people to enjoy the shortlist. Avoid dismissing the finalists (whomever they are) for at least a month.
Can we please Make America Normal Again?
As a former StoryCorps facilitator, this is fucking disgusting.
End the project already, Dave.
You created a good model: you encouraged people to sit and do oral history for 20 yrs.
Turning StoryCorps into a surveillance capitalism nightmare is not worth the money to keep the project going.
The stupid just does not stop.
well done! You're certainly not a green man at this.

You are an awesome artist, on multiple axes of the word.

The magical beauty of a Southern California sunset, captured at the pier, in Oceanside, California.
Two juvenile great blue herons atop a tree branch, sparring with their beaks.
Normally, I try to limit myself to short bursts of frames, but when these two juveniles started sparring, I threw caution to the wind and just put the hammer down for a continuous sequence of 56 images, just to get the “moment.”

Clouds surround a mountain peak. A utility pole is in the center, in front of Castle Hospital. Trees are in the foreground, they line the parking lot where we have a farmer's market on Sundays. April 19, 2026 Kailua, Hawaiʻi
Clouds hugging a peak of Ko'olau Range just after sunrise yesterday. I like to get to market and set up early, so I can go at an easy pace, visit friends, and not stress out. I got to see a sun halo yesterday too! Great market day.

Hwy 89 curves around a very pristine Lake Helen & from the left: Mt Diller, Pilot Peak, Eagle Peak, Mt Lassen, & Mt Helen, at the top of Lassen Volcanic National Park remember Kings Creek in yesterday's pic? it begins high on the eastern slope of Mt Helen (opposite side from this pov). and what keeps Lake Helen so pristine, you ask? no wading, swimming, & nothing that floats.
I know I posted a Mt Lassen pic yesterday but it's #BlueSkyMonday & #MountainMonday & this is the widest panorama I have of Lake Helen & Lassen Peak. believe me, it was a huff getting up this talus slope to take the pic. see ALT for more info.
