The calibration/QC standard savings are actually higher because new standards only have to be brought into use half as often.
It’s essentially a straight scale down without a full revalidation. For MCERTS or GxP, there are potentially further savings in electricity use, up to 10x improvements in detection limits and delivery of higher sample throughput that could be delivered through change control or an NS30 validation.
Just done a desk study for a lab doing VOC analysis. Spectrometrics technology can let them scale down to 10 mL vials saving TWO tonnes of waste glass per GC-MS system per year, HALVE their costs on calibration and QC standards, and save 10% on vial costs (£2000/yr).
