Editors typically add a personal note to their review request, unaware that the other automated emails exist. We've raised this issue with system admins last year already (it's inherent to the platform) and are waiting to see what they can do.
Not an excuse, but systems like Manuscript Central automatically send those emails (invite to create an account) without the associate editors' knowledge. Editors add a name and email to invite reviewers, unaware that the system adds them to the database and triggers several emails beforehand.

Exciting news! As our Special Issue nears publication, Interacting with Computers is launching a yearly Open Call for Papers on Methods in HCI & Design.
Contributing to methodological innovation, critique, or consolidation? Submit to @iwcjournal.bsky.social !

To ease the process and possible transferability between venues, IwC does not require the authors to use a predefined template at the submission stage. There is a Oxford University Press (OUP) LateX template if you want to, but the ACM template (word or LateX) or free format works equally well.
Looking for inspiration? Check out the recent methodological contributions in Interacting with Computers!
