Hello, I know a few people couldn't make my defense so I’ve made the recording temporarily available on YouTube for the next week or so.

My actual dissertation will be under embargo for at least 2 years, and therefore not readily available when I deposit it.

The list of mentors, sponsors, cheerleaders, friends, and family who uplifted me to this point is much too long for this post, but I’m genuinely thankful and will reflect on their impact for years.

I also want to thank Nancy Zhang, my MA thesis advisor (completed in May of this year) in the Wharton Department of Statistics and Data Science, for guiding me through my degree and inspiring me into a passionate and attentive researcher in such a short period.

GCB Chair Benjamin Voight and coordinators Maureen Kirsch and Anne-Cara Apple all played pivotal roles in support, guidance, and development during my time at GCB, especially through challenges and life events.

There are so many people to thank, but I want to highlight my thesis committee—Richard Aplenc, Marylyn Ritchie, Tracy Johnson, Sharon Diskin—and my PI, Yi Xing, for their unending support in developing me as a scientist, learner, challenger, inquirer, and leader.

Kenia Hale, a predoctoral fellow, and Payton Croskey, a senior, are members of Princeton’s Ida B. Wells Just Data Lab (created by Dr. Ruha Benjamin), where they research ways people of color can resist digital surveillance.

They led a project called “Liberatory Technology and Digital Marronage.”
