In 2024, as @greenparty.org.uk co-leader and newly elected MP I pushed for rent controls to be included in the Renters’ Rights Bill, but Labour wouldn’t listen.
This Saturday, I’ll join thousands of tenants, and 50+ unions and grassroots groups, to demand rent controls now.

I co-sponsored this bill which aims to give chalk streams UNESCO world heritage status. These important habitats, 85% of which are in the UK, are at risk of drying out. Let’s protect the homes of plants, fish and aquatic mammals🌱🐠🦦

I signed this letter calling on British and Irish govs to take action on Israel’s continued violations of international law. Specifically: 1) the issuing of tenders to build a new illegal settlement in Jerusalem, and 2) the Israeli gov’s ban on international NGOs in Palestine.

My @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social councillor colleagues really enjoyed meeting you, and taking you out for dinner. Thank you to Vegan India on Gloucester Road for feeding us so well 🙏

I will continue to work with my constituents and local groups to resist the impacts of these policies on migrants, who are valued members of our Bristol community.
Others felt that neither Home Office nor advice agencies are equipped for the current immigration caseload, let alone the additional work that these changes will bring.
There was real concern for the mental health impacts of the government’s inhumane changes to immigration policy, and the ramifications for vulnerable groups, like children and survivors of domestic violence…

A group of people sit around a table in a white room with a brown table in the middle. A person with shoulder length, light hair and glasses on their head speaks, with their hands. Others look at them. Someone stands at the front of the room, and a TV screen has a powerpoint slide on it, which reads: "Discussion led Bristol Law Centre".
I recently met with people from across the immigration advice sector in Bristol – who shared detailed accounts of the harms that will be caused by government’s new immigration policies, and what they could do instead.

The emboldenment of the far right is a grave concern for all of us. Today, Brits said loud and clear: they do not represent us. Our streets belong to us, not to fearmongers who preach hate 🫱🏼🫲🏿🪧
My letter to Ed Miliband, welcoming proposals by @cmmonwealth.bsky.social, @greenpeaceuk.bsky.social and Stonehaven, and calling on him to commit to decoupling the price of gas from the price of electricity once and for all.

As we stare down these energy price shocks, we need to ask: why is the price of *all* electricity largely set by gas-fired power stations? This rigged system needs to change. Today, I wrote to Ed Miliband MP asking that we break the link between gas and electricity prices.
Labour have been smearing the Greens on our evidenced-based approach to drugs. If the PM won’t listen to us, and he won’t listen to the experts, will he listen to the families at @anyoneschild.bsky.social, who have lost loved ones under the UK’s current negligent drug policies?
"Hate like this is becoming normalised. This sentiment was echoed on all sides of the House when ministers gave MPs an update in Parliament today, which we were pleased to hear. We welcome the Government's commitment to replacing the ambulances and maintaining a visible policing presence in Jewish communities. No one should feel unsafe because of who they are, their faith, or where they live. We must stand firmly against antisemitism in all its forms, wherever it appears. We need to make sure all communities feel safe and protected. Now is the time for solidarity with our Jewish friends and family. We cannot allow fear or extremism to divide us. Our communities are strengthened by our diversity and when people are unable to live in peace then we are all much worse off." The vile antisemitic attack in Golders Green yesterday morning was absolutely horrific.
…These demands are all the more relevant as Chancellor Rachel Reeves spoke on energy prices today (albeit not actually announcing very much).
Households shouldn’t have to foot the bill for this crisis – and the government could do a lot more to help them.
It was great to meet with @costoflivingaction.bsky.social yesterday — a coalition of over 30 groups taking action against the cost of living crisis. We’re united in the fight to cut bills, cap rents and tax billionaires 💸
The govt's ban on new oil and gas licences is just lip service for as long as it plans to introduce ‘tiebacks’. This loophole allows *new* drilling, by connecting new sites to existing ones. This is indefensible when every drop of oil or gas burned puts our future further at risk.
Obviously, climate change is the biggest threat facing humanity, and I wish every MP took it as seriously as I do.
So the turnout in that debate really should have been higher.
But I guess I just wanted to highlight that the number of MPs in the chamber is not the total number of MPs at work.
E.g. Yesterday there was a debate on the Iran war which I am of course very concerned about, but I trusted my colleague @elliechowns.bsky.social to represent the Greens powerfully in this debate, so I could attend an equally important meeting about solutions to the cost of living crisis.
At any given moment there are dozens of different meetings happening across Parliament and in MPs' constituencies.
So when a debate in the main chamber is on a specialised subject, usually only the MPs that have a particular interest in that subject (e.g. they are shadow minister) attend the debate
It would be easy for me to accept your praise and agree that all other MPs are lazy and barely do any work, but my experience is that - even though I disagree with many of them on policy - the vast majority of MPs work v hard. It's true that there often isn't a full chamber, but this is because...
Thank you. But to be fair to the MPs not in the room - this debate was on Thurs pm when most MPs are very much working, mostly in/on their way back to their constituencies to support their constituents there. I do wish more MPs had been there, but the scheduled time of the debate was very unhelpful.
Trans people of all ages exist, and always have.* They have every right to thrive in life just as their cisgender friends, family members, and colleagues do. Providing healthcare is part of that.
* #TransHistoryWeek reading from @wearequeeraf.com at www.wearequeeraf.com/transhistory...
Trans people are so often excluded from decisions made about them. I am concerned the puberty blockers trial has been paused not for clinical reasons, nor because govt listened to trans people's constructive concerns about how it will be run, but as a political decision...
I challenged Labour MP Mike Tapp on the government's harmful proposed immigration reforms.
In response he tried to tell me what my *own* constituents think about immigration 🤔
Sooooo, I dug up the receipts on what the people of Bristol Central actually think 🧾👀
