Trans people of all ages exist, and always have.* They have every right to thrive in life just as their cisgender friends, family members, and colleagues do. Providing healthcare is part of that.

Anti-Trans+ ideology thrives on the false claim that Trans+ people have no past, no present, and no future
But Trans+ folk do exist - always have and always will
By uplifting and celebrating Trans+ history, we shatter that narrative

This week was #transhistoryweek and last night was a fundraiser comedy event. It was nice for however brief the moment was to be around some laughs and some Guinness zero. Seriously it's soo awesome that Diageo sponsored this event. There's an opportunity for brands to uniquely show up right now.
Thank you for the follow @humanrightsvicky.bsky.social you are doing a seriously important thing right now.
Given that this week is #transhistoryweek so important to recognise the luminaries of present day and the big achievements we've made sofar
In its 25+ years, @outsports.com has covered in detail the rich history of LGBTQ+ sportspeople, but particularly those from the U.S.
So for #TransHistoryWeek, I wanted to introduce a few more Outsports readers to Roberta Cowell and Michael Dillon, and how their stories became intertwined... 🇬🇧🏳️⚧️
This image has a dark purple background. There is a photo of a person smiling at the camera and graphics of the trans flag. The black, white, pink and blue text reads: 2025 Trans+ Historical Figures, April Ashley (1935-2021). Trans+ History Week, 05-11 May 2025. April Ashley was born in Liverpool in 1935. She prayed each morning she would wake up a girl, and joined the Merchant Navy aged 14 to escape an unhappy home life and the confusion around her gender. April later moved to Jersey and then Paris where she transitioned, working at Le Carrousel nightclub to earn the money she needed for pioneering gender reassignment surgery. April was Dr Georges Burou’s ninth patient when she had the surgery at his clinic in Casablanca, Morocco in 1960. Unfortunately, April was outed as a trans woman by The Sunday People in 1961. After returning to Britain, she became a successful fashion model, appearing in publications like British Vogue.

The black, white, pink and blue text reads: 2025 Trans+ Historical Figures, Alan L. Hart (1890-1962). Trans+ History Week, 05-11 May 2025. Alan L. Hart was an Oregon physician, researcher, writer, and one of the first trans men to undergo a hysterectomy in the United States and live the remainder of his life as a man. Alan was born on October 4, 1890, in Hall’s Summit, Kansas. Alan L. Hart revolutionised the fields of radiology and tuberculosis research. Dr. Alan L. Hart's ground-breaking contributions to medicine in the early 20th century had a profound impact on tuberculosis research. He was the first to propose the use of x-rays for early tuberculosis detection, establishing screening clinics in rural areas and significantly improving recovery rates.
These figures were chosen for the unique ways they challenged boundaries and contributed to their fields and communities.

It’s #transhistoryweek, and with the current administration seeking to restrict gender-affirming care for youth, let’s remember stories like Justin’s - the first trans man able to legally change his gender on his official I.D. in Puerto Rico.

Chevalière d’Éon: French diplomat, soldier, and spy.
D’Éon fought in the 7 Years War, spied across Europe and lived publicly as a man for 49 years. In 1777, she began living as a woman and was recognised as such by King Louis XVI.
A true icon of gender variance in history.

Today’s figure is one of myth and legend: Caeneus.
Born Caenis, he was transformed into an invulnerable man by the sea god Poseidon, becoming a fierce warrior in Greek and Roman mythology.
Caeneus reminds us that gender diversity has always existed — even in ancient stories.
Stonewall riots: No one can erase the truth that trans women kickstarted the LGBTQ+ rights movement #TransHistoryWeek ➡️ bit.ly/4d5h41D
Graphic reads: In school, I didn't get taught that gender non-conformity has existed all through history, even if the language around it has changed.
Graphic reads: We know about many people in British history who wore clothing for the 'wrong' gender - though they were often ostracised or punished for dressing this way in public. (An illustration of the 'ladies of Llangollen' wearing men's style clothing and top hats.) Even in eras where people were severely punished or executed for it, we have records of people living fully as a different gender to what society expected - including those whose birth sex was only known because of examination after death.
Graphic reads: We can never know how historicla figures would describe themselves if they were alive now - but some accoutns definitely line up closely with modern trans experiences. For a deeper look, try 'before we were trans' by Kit Heyam or 'Female Husbands' by Jen Manion, or for a fun, accessible intro on lots of different historical figures, look up 'queer as fact', a queer history podcast.
