If your job came at a Deaf educator’s expense, what would you do? What are you willing to shift? Allyship means asking hard questions — and acting on the answers.
If you’re a hearing ASL teacher & feeling unsure, that’s okay. Sit with it. Ask: Why am I in this role? Am I taking space from a Deaf teacher? What am I doing to ensure Deaf voices lead? With ASL & Deaf Studies programs being cut, who gets let go first? Be honest.

Several weeks ago, four of five STEM programs that make up the NIH-funded Deaf Scientists Pipeline in Rochester, NY were cut (the fifth is expected to be cut too). A PhD student made the below infographic to visualize what these cuts mean as a catastrophic generational loss for #Deaf science
They warned you about drag queens.
They warned you about immigrants.
They warned you about liberals and trans people.
But it’s never them.
It’s always another young, white, conservative Christian man.
