THE OTHER LOVE: POEMS by Henri Cole

THE OTHER LOVE: POEMS by Henri Cole

“Now darker emotions dissolve. / Violence seems dumb. Things that were come back. / … / A new president speaks / not of power but of our souls.”

This collection is so good!

“I picture Merrill sitting in the bentwood rocking chair chez Kalstone at our first meeting. I am just twenty-four and a student in David’s poetry seminar at Columbia, where I have been reading Merrill’s poems.”

“Wuthering Heights,” “Vigil” by George Saunders, and “Orphic Paris” by Henri Cole in a neat pile on a bookshelf evidently owned by someone with impeccable taste in books.

“Wuthering Heights,” “Vigil” by George Saunders, and “Orphic Paris” by Henri Cole in a neat pile on a bookshelf evidently owned by someone with impeccable taste in books.

Books finished in February, a month in which I also managed to buy no books.

It was my third time through Wuthering Heights, which I just happened to be teaching to 11th grade AP students this month of all months.

YTD: 7 read, 2 bought

An amaryllis sent by Henri Cole

My friend Henri sent me an amaryllis bulb. It has bloomed and now every hummingbird in the neighborhood drops by for a drink.

Henri Cole however I did and do find quite quite good. “Thank you, mother and father, for creating me” is a bar.

“Birdbath” “Standing at the window, I watch robins clean themselves / in the cement birdbath.”

Hurry up, Come on, Be quick, some men say, but my revenge
is to live and sing the things I cannot say. — “Birdbath,” by Henri Cole ino.to/xslpISk

I only caught pieces of it on the page featuring the excellent Henri Cole poem and that was enough for me

Rattlesnakes weren't around, so I took a moment to sit at the edge of the trail and bathe in the light of the poppies. (Photo by @henricole.bsky.social )

CNN headline that says Trump delivers a deadly blow to EPA’s ability to regulate climate pollution

CNN headline that says Trump delivers a deadly blow to EPA’s ability to regulate climate pollution

The president is overruling science to eliminate measures that protect us from pollution and environmental damage, mainly to benefit multinational corporations that have thrown money at his campaign, ballroom, and family.

It's simple corruption, and it will cost American lives and livelihoods.

Everything Trump touches dies. Everything he believes is wrong.

(AP) - Voters are worried about the cost of housing. But Trump wants home prices to keep climbing

Trump’s big lie that he won in 2020 has spread to the rest of the GOP and his allies in the right wing like Steve Bannon. It is all a pretext to disrupt the 2026. They cannot succeed or our democracy will fall.
