Around 6,000 ocean scientists are meeting in Glasgow at the AGU Ocean Sciences Meeting, discussing how fossil-fuel-caused climate change is affecting sea levels, ocean currents and life in our oceans. #OSM26

Hall 3 of #OSM26 made me think of silent discos. Works well as long as you don’t accidentally switch on a wrong channel and then get confused because the talk you hear through the headphones doesn’t match the slides you are looking at 🤦♀️. #SilentOceanScienceDisco
Wow!!! The relaxation zone in #OSM26 is a conference bonus I haven’t seen before!! Could we have this as a norm in UK based marine conferences please?
Excellent! Will try to find the shop during the next break!
If you're an environmental journalist in the UK or Europe, the biggest gathering of ocean scientists in the world is happening in Glasgow next week, and you should consider coming to cover some of the most important findings about our life support system. #OSM26
Exciting news! 🌊The #COP30 #VirtualOceanPavilion – a free online platform connecting global audiences with UN ocean & climate discussions – has been endorsed as a UN Ocean Decade Activity 🌍💙

Loving how my feed has filled up with David Attenborough this week! #oceanoptimism #marineconservation #myhero #legend
Well this is depressing. Looking forward to some good marine conversation news stories for a change, as it seems like it's been a while...

Two penguins wearing Santa hats standing next to a Christmas tree made out of images of Antarctic seafloor creatures with starfish in the sky as stars
Merry Christmas to everyone!
The tree and stars are made from images of #Antarctic seafloor creatures found on @bas.ac.uk expeditions I was on.

November 2024 data is now available for both Antarctic sea-ice thickness/volume (zacklabe.com/antarctic-se...) and global sea-ice volume (zacklabe.com/global-sea-i...) from GIOMAS.
Last month's global sea-ice volume is statistically tied for a record low for the month of November.
Incredible trap feeding method by Eden's whales, amazing footage: just open your mouth and wait for the fish to jump in!

Atlantic Blue Crab
Earlier this year two reports of the Atlantic Blue Crab, were made on the Sussex coast. This species is non-native to the UK, originating in the western Atlantic Ocean.
Anglers & divers are being asked to report any sightings of this distinctive crab.

A thread with some really beautiful examples of why midwater is my favorite place to explore. From #SchmidtOcean dive 556 during their #VentUnderworld expedition. The midwater above vent sites have never failed to have amazing animals like this stunning Vitreledonella (glass octopus)! #MarineLife

‘It’s nonstop’: how noise pollution threatens the return of Norway’s whales.🐋
Oil and gas exploration, cruises, fishing boats & even whale-watchers add to the noise underwater.
(We're pretty sure Norway 🇳🇴 hunting whales doesn't help either❗️)

This is great!
Warming trend in my home city of #York since the 1980s. This really brings the message home 😨 #Showyourstripes
Presuming the favourite part hasn’t been the procurement?😁
I totally agree, saltmarsh co2 flux monitoring has been great- fantastic gadgets and continuous high resolution data, what’s not to like ❤️
