A light novel cover with blue-tinted artwork of a huge mecha shaped like a scifi armoured lady.

The premise is kinda out there and a lot more comedic in tone than you'd expect, especially in the OVA.

Digging deep into my obscurer anime OVA knowledge for this cool cover artwork share: Ariel. A light novel series that ran for twenty years from 1986 and spawned two OVAs.

A Lord Commissar and 6 Commissars, standing in an apple orchard, doing whatever commissars do in their freetime.

And that's it. The last three months have been quite a nostalgia trip, and I loved every moment of this project: Painting old minis and building new ones too.

Thank you for looking at this thread! I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Before you go, have a bonus pic: Commissars on shore leave.

A trio of Leman Russ Battle tanks is waiting for supplies in the tundra before they can make the final stretch towards the occupied city.
Two tank crewman are carrying jerry cans and an autocannon barrel respectively, while another one is watching them with a rifle in his hands.
The tanks are painted in grey colour with a light grey zigzag camo scheme and bluish grey triangles.

An Imperial Guard Manticore, a self-propelled rocket artillery piece for Warhammer 40k. It is painted in a grey urban camo scheme, its rockets are green with yellow tips.
Dug-in behind a sandbag fortification, this Manticore - nicknamed Hellcat by its crew - is down to the last remaining missiles, right now firing the third out of four, leaving a small trail of smoke behind it as the rocket ascends into the sky.

Heavy Support

Three Leman Russ Battle Tanks, two with sponsons so they have three heavy bolters, one just with a lascannon.

One Manticore.

And in case I want to attach them to the infantry platoons: Two heavy weapon teams, one with three mortars, one with three heavy bolters.

An Imperial Guard Sentinel patrolling through some ruins. The Sentinel is painted in grey urban camo, with red and white unit markings adding a bit of color. It is armed with an autocannon.
Aside from a ruined building there are also barbed wire roadblocks and sandbags in the front. Visible in the background is a page from Jon Hodgson's World War Ruins backdrop book, showing a large ruined building.

A Valkyrie model for Warhammer 40k by Games Workshop on its flying stand. It is painted in light grey, and has green multiple rocket pods, the tips of the rockets painted in red. Its modex reads 300, and it is piloted by a crew named Lt Natasha "Phoenix" Trace and Lt Robert "Bob" Floyd. All similarities to fictional aviators are purely coincidental.

One for the casual games: Imperial Guard Rough Riders on bikes. So, Rough Bikers I guess. Though they are not tall enough to really proxy their counterparts.
They are on a cobblestone street, behind them is a red brick wall with a blue door. Bikes and riders are painted in the urban camo scheme of my army.
Their leader has stopped the bike and points forward with a power sword, the others - armed with lances with frag tips - are changing their direction to follow this order. One rider, the one with a guidon, performs a wheelie.

Not much new, and you know some of these pictures already: A Sentinel, a Valkyrie, and my custom Rough Riders.

As a bonus, here's also a pic with the missing chimera in it: Mobility for a team with meltaguns.

A platoon consisting of 35 soldiers is defending a backyard. The command squad and its accompanying commissar has taken position behind a stone wall to make use of their melta guns and a power fist, while the commissar aims his boltgun.
To their left and right are two squads of infantry, each equipped with a plasma gun and an autocannon, a third squad, this one equipped with a missile launcher, has taken position in a ruined building, where it is spread across several floors.

A commissar is whipping 30 conscripts from the 291st replacement depot through abandoned streets as they advance to reinforce the front.
To differentiate them from the more seasoned soldiers, they are wearing light grey stripes on their helmets and right shoulder pauldrons. The latter also still shows the number of their replacement depot instead of the regiment's symbol.

Troops

The backbone of the Guard. And a learning experience: I'll never again do unit markings with the Guard. 😂

I've got two platoons, a squad of hardened veterans, and now also 30 conscripts.

And I've just now noticed that I forgot to include the first platoon's chimera in their photo. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Sly Marbo, the greatest hero the Guard has ever seen, here in his finecast version. He is wearing desert camo pants, and a khaki tank top. He is standing in the middle of some crates, with a red brick wall in the back. His energy sword glows blue, a color that clashes with the blood on the pointy end of the blade, coming from a beheaded Ork.

Snipers standing on a rooftop, looking into different directions. Two metal Cadian snipers, standing with their back to the viewer, one newly built one out of new and old Cadian plastic parts, and the ratlings from the Provisionally Prepared set, one signalling the others that he has spotted something.
The older snipers are wearing light grey coats to which I've applied basing sand 20 years ago to resemble a ghillie suit. The newer sniper has a coat with tiger stripes in bluish grey colors. The ratlings are wearing light grey urban camo uniforms. All rifles are in a desert yellow color.

Elite

12 Kasrkin that I can run in two units, one with two meltas, one with two plasma guns.

The one and only Sly Marbo.

(Also here: 5 Snipers, though they are not a legal unit in this army.)

Miniatures from the 20+ year old metal Cadian command squad, the regimental advisors, a Lord Commissar, and as standard bearer a custom miniature. Colonel Mueller is standing in front of a green building with light brown doors, he is wearing a dark grey coat, and a grey armor with golden ornaments.
In the front is the squad's medic, taking care of a wounded comrade, while the standard bearer holds the brigade's flag up high. They all are wearing my army's usual uniform.
Further in the back are the master vox, the regimental advisors, and Lord Commissar Sergej Ranovich. The Astropath is wearing a red robe, the Officer of the Fleet a blue jacked with white pants. The Master of Ordnance is wearing a tan armor over his urban camo uniform. And the Lord Commissar has a white uniform, as typical for my commissars, armor of silver color, and a red cape.

Captain Gorfan has a custom captain with a red beret, plasma pistol, and an energy sword; the standard bearer from the metal Cadian HQ box, a lascannon team, and a plasma gunner. Also present is a commissar, who is standing on a balcony, preaching from the Uplifting Primer.

Attrition has left this command squad without troops. An officer with his chainsword and plasma pistol and his four subordinates with flamethrowers are eager to continue the fight they are boarding a Chimera under the ever watchful eyes of their commissar.

HQ

The original premise of my army was: When an Eldar army attacked, Colonel Mueller as the CO tasked Captain Gorfan from Bravo Company to gather whatever troops he'd find to defend the planet's capital.

So if you wonder about the different unit markings, that's why.

The wave of nostalgia that hit me when I opened the mail today was pretty great. Honestly 3rd edition codices despite being out of print for 20 years are still so much cheaper than modern 40k rulebooks it’s insane. This was like $20 on thriftbooks

A photo showing my painted Imperial Guard army, 182 miniatures and vehicles. Built with 5th Edition in mind, it is about 3000 points in total.
Most of the miniatures are painted with colors that resemble light grey urban camo uniforms, the vehicle have camo schemes in the same colors. They are standing on a winter-themed neoprene mat.
