Great article from @dralexford.bsky.social and colleagues www.nature.com/articles/s44... . The use of manufactured doubt, deflection and disinformation has become relevant across #environmental #sciences - #PlasticsTreaty and #climatechange. Here's another example of what scientists are facing.
Just finished the BES (@britishecolsoc.bsky.social) conservation concept video series by @billsutherland.bsky.social would really recommend for anyone who could do with brushing up on fundamental ecology. I have more of a mol bio background so I learnt a lot!

UK University funding is a mess at the moment. Student fees frozen while costs go up. Fewer international students coming to subsidise courses for UK students. No quotas, so ‘top’ Universities take more students to pay the bills.

The perfect Monday #RecipeOfTheDay: Spaghetti with Marmite! And I’ll have you know that this is no Anglo act of appropriation but the invention of that great Italian foodwriter, Anna del Conte www.nigella.com/recipes/spag...
New report reveals the strategies of distortion water firms use to hide the extent of sewage pollution. Highlights include watered down poo, no evidence of harm (because no-one ran tests), we're not the only ones polluting & we wouldn't want to put your bills up...

Should add the paper is on the Water Industries greenwashing tactics on sewage pollution by Alex Ford, Andrew Singer, Peter Hammond and Jamie Woodward.
Fantastic price of work, thank you.https://www.nature.com/articles/s44221-024-00370-y
Raw sewage once again flooded into streets and properties from Thames Water's Horley STW: they blame the weather: this is out of order! Our research shows multiple design deficiencies means it’s incapable of properly treating incoming wastewater flows 😩 www.rivermoleriverwatch.org.uk/post/out-of-...
Yes, completely agree. The additions of F, Cl or Br to stabilise chemical structures should also ring alarm bells.
I could have reposted 100s on PFAS. Why attention now, it is too late. When will we learn as a species the concept of the precautionary principle. Concerns over forever chemicals was made decades ago.
Thomas, the UK. It is a very comprehensive report.
At the Office for Environmental protection annual report launch. Does not look good none of the Environmental improvement plans on track. Speeding up action in the marine environment is one recommendation. Government must do more because momentum has been lost.
