In place of memory I did not have, of an event I did not witness, my memory worked over someone else’s story; it rehydrated the driest little note and made of it a pop-up cherry orchard.

my mobile while on the train or on the phone, a little like notching a stick (to remind me, so that these two- and three-worded distillations the memory would be able to put together a whole viable and elegant construction, a silken tent for the narrative to reside in).
The history of this book consists of a number of such denials: moments when I managed to escape it in various ways: I put it off for my older better self to complete, or I made tiny, painless and deliberately inadequate sacrifices: putting notes on scapes of paper or on.

*both* hold equal power. However, that is not my only problem with the consent as true-power in power-exchange model.
I am not saying that consent isn’t vital to differentiating BDSM from abuse, it is, but I am wary of its role as the determinant of who holds true power because if I were to approach consent ethically, then both parties would have to consent to everything and that would lead me to conclude they
If I started to interpret their preferences as instructions, I would come off as (and might be) a stalker.
Of course, as the bottom if I didn’t consent to having my face stepped on that would be assault, but as the dominant if they didn’t consent to having me kneel in front of them every day and I still did it, that would be creepy as fuck.
Another great essay from Ancilla L:
Whenever I hear someone say that *giving consent* is what determines the level of power, I wonder if they missed the fact that consent is co-created, so as the submissive I don’t solely *give* consent and as the dominant they don’t solely *take* consent.

Listened to the audiobook version of Flesh, which won the Booker. Masterful writing. It was refreshing to encounter a book about a man who doesn’t feel like a stand-in for a particular ideology or a loveable asshole, or anything of that sort. I really loved it.

I know at least two people whose dominant partners raved about the most intense S&M scene they ever had with them who later told me they took an opiate to get through it because they fucking hate pain.
secret, and of them, at least half, actually cannot have orgasms around you because you do not know their bodies well enough to actually make them come, and that is why when you do grant them permission they either fake it or they ask to use a tool, a toy or their own hands.
First of all, roughly 60% of the submissives on orgasm denial, hate it and hate their partners for it (and many have them have tried to address it with them only to be shut down), and are totally having orgasms by themselves but pretending they aren’t to you, sorry to let out this industry
Trust is more critical to a D/s relationship than any other consensual adult relationship. Really just appalling, imho. ///
When setting one’s sights on political literature, it’s helpful to criminalize not only the possession of critical reading material but also its regular discussion. The Emma Goldman Book Club “sounds very innocuous,” said the prosecutor. “It’s camouflage for what it is.”
assignment, like presenting on a novel without touching it, is not to actually read the book but only to convince your classmates of what happened in it.
