Watching people “discover” environmental racism, and then double down on doing it has been depressing.

a white porcelain body cast of a torso, strung together with thread with a foam arm hanging at the end. Together they make one body. The porcelain torso is sitting on a cube of foam

Stringing Myself Together

Porcelain, String, Foam
I string myself together, continually remaking myself, my breaking and pain as an expression of my resilience and power.
A beeswax cast of a curled up body with her leg on her chest and foot by her hip. The beeswax is a very light yellow color. It is placed on a swirling circular, rippling, white bed sheet.

The bed as a cocoon, the pupa in transition, the ill body and its bed are often one. I continue to synthesize the chronically ill body with its created environment to be safe, comfortable, and thrive. The bedspace is a portal.

The image shows the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt on display on the National Mall in Washington D.C. in October 1996. This particular display, from October 11-13, 1996, was the last time the entire quilt was shown in its entirety, covering the vast expanse of the National Mall from the Washington Monument towards the U.S. Capitol. It featured over 40,000 panels and drew approximately 1.2 million visitors.

Today I was accused of not doing enough to fight for disabled people.
Shamed for not being at protests or more active in boycotts.
I’m housebound, almost completely bedbound.
I would love to be out protesting, but my body can’t do it.
I can’t help anyone if I don’t survive🧵
“You don’t need a respirator for pollen, take antihistamines”
“No point masking for smoke unless you’re wearing it 24/7”
“They don’t work for Covid unless fit tested”
We’ve failed at harm reduction. Even if something isn’t 100%, if you reduce risk & harm, that’s worth it!
PLEASE share this update as much as y'all did the first one! Bluesky did NOT fix their violent ableism towards me, and in fact doubled down on their assertion that ableist is a slur.
HEY NEVERMIND THEY'RE STILL PUNISHING ME FOR BEING DISABLED. @moderation.bsky.app why are you ableist as fuck? #a11y #neisvoid #disability

A life cast of a leg casted in glass. Ceramic bits are embedded in the glass of the toes. The foot is broken from the ceramic bits and have visible fragmentation in the glass. The leg rests on a pile of several pillows that are uncovered.

three porcelain life casted objects: two legs and a hand on a tummy. They lay on a fluffy surface with a white bedsheet. From the bed, a pile of white pillows form a body that has the tummy and hand piece in the middle. The porcelain has cracks and some parts crumbled that lay on the bedsheet.

Nicer detail shots from my qualifier exhibition!
A stack of white pillows holding a glass bubble that has a ribcage wrapped around it. Beyond the glass piece is another ribcage hanging from the ceiling from yarn. It also has yarn drooping down as if the ribs were soft and melting.
Uncontained, 2025.
This image shows pieces: Gasp and Weighed Down.
More beautiful install shots ❤️
Car with purple dyed hair in a mullet cut looks at the camera with a small smile next to their new work. Their piece "Gasp" a mix of ceramic and glass is to the right. They are wearing a black and gold shiny button down shirt with a black vest over top.
New professional photo 💘
A close up image of a white bedsheet wrinkled with a porcelain foot laying on top. It is realistic taken from a life cast but also crumbling and falling apart.
Exciting moments from my qualifier. More images coming soon! #disability #art #ceramics

A poster for my MFA 2nd Year review titled "uncontained" in a dripping black font. Car's name below reads "Carly 'Car' Riegger." Above the title is a porcelain hand dripping water.
I can't believe this is so soon! Installing this weekend 😬 I have some exciting surprises in my newest pieces that I'm excited to share with everyone. #disability #DisabledArtist #ceramics #porcelain #clay

@cyborgapologist.bsky.social and I are guest editing a topical collection for Journal of Human-Technology Relations on Cyborg-Technology Relations. We would love submissions (due June 1, 2025) that take disabled tech use seriously. Full details here: journals.open.tudelft.nl/jhtr/catalog...
Tips for being good disability advocate
1. Listen to Disabled/Chronically ill people
2. Do not project your own ideas or beliefs you have about disabled people as a whole onto anyone. They're likely wrong everyone is unique
3. Treat disabled/chronically ill people the way they want to be treated
The deletion of scientific information all over the federal government is this generation's book burnings.
