re-kindled a whole new appreciation for the broader science fiction genre for me!

agree on obligation-based business reading. I try to mix non-fiction books into my reading at like a 2:1 ratio, and I read a fiction and non-fiction book at the same time to cater to moods. thanks to @floord.bsky.social I now have a couple more books in my already too-long goodreads 'to read' list

well that's great. I want to remove all of the AI functionality from my GApps. Guess I'll contact support, then.

Many services don't need to be reachable externally, and I use @tailscale.com to reach those, which is the single most awesome addition to my home lab. Been running it for a year, and it's been rock solid.

Suite of self-hosted, open source tools to replace SaaS is expanding.

I now have replacements for calendly (cal.com), google photos (immich), google meet / zoom (jitsi), doodle (rallly), and 1password (vaultwarden). And that's only the ones reachable publicly. Internally, I run dozens of services.

Making an excellent point, here. I suppose part of the motivation for me to develop the Return on Investment driven observability moniker was exactly that?

Business architecture = people architecture = technical architecture = business architecture...

Antipattern: org design without consideration of the flow of value or the technical architecture.

inorite. It's been a major issue, although I haven't used Word in ages (partly because of this one issue).

No A.I. prompt can solve:

1. Team conflicts
2. Lack of a clear product vision
3. Conflicting and changing priorities
4. Messed up communication channels
5. Lack of trust among team members
6. Use of poor metrics to track performance
7. Polluted individual incentives

In that case... I have this thing https://www.amazon.nl/dp/B00ORENYJE for some migration work and it works. Plug into raspberry pi or whatever you have laying around, instant storage.

So... It depends? On whether you just need storage (and how resilient it must be) or also need to run apps / containers / vms

A synology's biggest advantage is the software. Just works. I run a server for lab purposes and did my own NAS and it works fine but it's not as smooth as a synology. Advantage of diy is that I can run all kinds of apps on my Nas. Synology hardware that can run containers or vms is expensive.
