Why is it that my sleep schedule can never adhere to what I need?

Five days off in a row, I'll be sleeping at 11pm with a nice wake-up at 7am.

When I have work? Suddenly I'll be up at 3am when I start work at 8:30am :) :) :) WHY

It's not even on purpose! I don't feel tired!!

I'm studying Cantonese 🇭🇰 because my boyfriend is from HK and I'd like to know his native language:)

Definitely only an A1 level for now, I've only been studying on and off since January this year (Cantonese resources are sparse & expensive.)

I've used Drops, Pimsleur, and Outcasts from the 853.

Leaving the hospitality/retail sector is like leaving an abusive relationship.

But essentially, what I'm trying to say is that I could have been a graduate who is also a published author. Perhaps the book itself wouldn't have been great, but it's an achievement nonetheless.

So if you want to write a book? Do it now. Fix it later if you wish.

But you can do it.

The writing process in itself is built upon imperfection. There was nothing stopping me from going back and fixing it later.

Additionally, universities often help their students actually publish their work. (Mine did, anyway.) Look into that.

(Lazy one today.)

When I was studying for my degree, I told myself I wouldn't start writing my book until I graduated.

My excuse was that I'd have more skills under my belt to create the perfect story.

It's probably one of my biggest regrets.

On TikTok, there's a bunch of white women, telling people to "keep politics out of booktok." And I'm just thinking about how all of them can eat shit and then shut the fuck up! Reading has always been political. Books have always been political. LITERACY IS INHERENTLY POLITICAL!

I'd like to post the first chapter of my novel somewhere, but I'm a little uncertain of where to actually post it.

(Also, one last key thing to mention is that the drafting process may be different for neurodivergent people. So, if you are a neurodivergent writer, take this advice with a grain of salt! What works for me might not work for you - as long as you are writing, that's what matters.)

And one key thing to remember is this: nothing is permanent until it is published. If you hate it, you can always change it later.

But do not stress over your first draft. If it's terrible, you're probably doing it right.

Your first draft is the equivalent of an artist's sketch. Write down those words as they come to you and do not return.

And if you're stuck, you can always skip to the next scene, or just include something simple like: "(Write later!)".

Refining is what second drafts are for.

But the bitter truth is that your writing will never be perfect. It will never be that cinematic scene you encapsulate in your mind. Especially not in your first draft.

No, the real truth is this - your first draft not only should suck, it WILL suck. And for good reason!
