And boy oh boy did this patient’s pulse collapse! Zero echo windows, nonspecific ekg changes, and pulmonary distress. He had an aortic root dissection with severe AI and all I could do as a tech was check pulse lowered and raised. But it was enough for me to find a Cardiologist STAT!
EchoPro Tip #2: I call it the Arterial Positional Pulse Test: Palpate the radial pulse with the left arm at the patient’s side, then raise it overhead. In cases of severe AI, the pulse will disappear—a clinical clue when echo windows are impossible to get! #echofirst #cardiosky #medsky
