Sitting here crying while after getting WhatsApped the photo on the right, so let me tell you a little story about how we got here from the photo on the left and why repatriation research matters!

NEW: Denver's Mayor announces the city will remove Cesar Chavez's name from a park and an annual celebration. Denver will instead mark March 31 as Si Se Puede Day, a nod to UFW co‑founder Dolores Huerta's famous phrase.
A painting made to look like a vintage California orange crate label, which includes the title "W.W. III Brand," an oversized orange, an emblem with text "Oranges" and "Oildale, Cal.," and a doctored image of the famous Iwo Jima photo, with the soldiers erecting an oil derrick with an Exxon flag
Everything old is new again: Ben Sakoguchi, "World War III Brand," from the Orange Crate series, 1974-81. Sakoguchi, now 87 years old, is a Japanese American artist who was interned with his family in Arizona during WWII. Based in Southern California, he has been steadily making work since the 1960s

Hades and Persephone are tinted, lightened, cleaned up, and printed out on 12x16 Sanders Waterford 140lb hot press paper. (note this method only works with a printer that uses pigment-based inks, as pigment based ink is fully waterproof. Dye based inks will unfortunately bleed when wet 😭).
Whenever polymarkets are mentioned, I can’t help but think of the movie Rat Race with Rowan Atkinson
Shoppers in upstate New York month turned up a rare find while perusing a local antique store this month: a live owl resting peacefully among items on a shelf.

NEW: Guards have taken away crayons, colored pencils & paper during recent room searches at Dilley, according to detainees and others. After one inspection, the children just “cried and cried and cried,” a mother said. The facility denies the claims.

Thank you!😊
An illustrated page from my sketchbook (Leilani Derr). Rough sketches of a cloaked figure made of reaching arms and tangles of hair.

In a new video game, players can join a heist crew to take back looted African artifacts from museums, but there’s even more at stake: Users must learn musical rhythms, consult elders, and participate in ceremonies to reactivate the social meaning of these objects.
An illustration of a blue bronco with red eyes amongst blue flames with “F**k ICE. Love, Denver.” lovingly scrolled along the bottom.

The Washington Post published a clear video of federal agents removing Alex Pretti's handgun moments before he was fatally shot. There's nothing in the video to suggest Pretti even reached for his weapon.

If this is what they do to white American citizens in front of everyone, imagine what happens to non-white people behind closed doors.
Alex Pretti from his early days working at the VA
Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. We’d chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now
Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

Oh noooooo. Is that what happens when a company fundamentally refuses to listen to their user base? Weird.

A picture of green jay feathers (Cyanocorax luxuosus). They are all lined up and organized: primaries, secondaries, coverts, tail feathers. Most of the feathers are gray with a green tip.
I just stumbled upon featherbase, a database of feather pictures from a bunch of bird species.🪶
So pretty!

A whimsical interpretation of a Japanese mythological beast called the kotobuki. It’s an auspicious chimera made of parts of all 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. The kotobuki is a deep greenish blue on a hot pink textured background. The piece is 12x12” in size.

Here’s another #kotobuki I created for the final One Square Foot fundraiser at RedLine in October.
