Another very minor update to my game, we now have a light that illuminates around the player at night (and eventually caves and other dark areas too!). It has a bit of a flicker to it as well to make it seem more like a lantern light.

Minor thing for today, added in a better transition animation for transitioning from the overworld into battle.
Wasn't too hard with a godot shader, though I had little experience with godot's shaders beforehand, but I got it all figured out!
I want to make a video going more in depth about it too sometime this week, but yeah! I migrated from Godot 4.0 to 4.5 and decided to rewrite the dialogue system to better match other games in the RPG genre. Now to just rework the inventory system...
What's new in the world of Magical Girl Saga? Well... a whole new dialogue system! I rewrote the ENTIRE dialogue system I had and created something that would allow for branching dialogue and the new system works flawlessly after 3 days of work!

Hey all! I'm Dawnlight and I'm a computer scientist! I like to make websites and program in various languages in my spare time and am currently working on a JRPG game! You can find me on a few places on the internet below!
- make some good progress this year with the game and make something that I'd enjoy playing myself.
There's still plenty to do of course, so I'm definitely going to make it my New Year's resolution to work on the game more and I think I can be happy with it in the end!
- where like a character could ask you if you'd like an item and you could select a yes or no option in a menu box and that translates to a line of dialogue spoken by the player based on the selection.
I think this way, the dialogue now is just better for the story I want to tell and I hope I can-
As you can see in the video, our player character now has dialogue in the conversation with one of the game's enrollable party members. This means that I can now do things like create quests and more immersive dialogue in the game.
I want to eventually add in the ability to select options as well-
Hello everyone! I'm back! And.... I've got a new but maybe minor? (if you can call it that lol) update to Magical Girl Saga!
I've refactored my ENTIRE dialogue system! So what does this mean? It means that now, the character AND the player speak to each other instead of just the character speaking!
nothing to worry about. I hope to find a way to balance developing Magical Girl Saga and other things in my life, and I'm quite confident I can do that.
Well, that concludes this update, I just wanted to come and say I'm not dead, I'm still here, just focusing on other stuff, so no worries!
week or so. I'm also working with one of my artists on creating new assets for my website and social media branding for my bsky, and my sprite artist is working on making new sprites based on the concept art I scribbled for the game, so there's some stuff to look forward to. But for now, there's-
Hello all,
I just wanted to come on here and say that, no, I didn't stop working on Magical Girl Saga, but instead, I took a break on working on the game so I could focus on finding at least part-time employment. I plan on returning to work on Magical Girl Saga very soon, hopefully in the next-
It also works on other characters as well as the main character, I just opted to only show the main player using it to get the point across. Now to debug the inventory menu a bit more and it should be nearing what I envisioned.
Another minor update to my game, this time, there's text that tells you what item you've used and what it does when you use it, followed by the inventory reopening back to the last inventory the user was using when the dialogue is dismissed.

Some concept sketches of the main character in my game, Jeanne and her companion and one of the enrollable party members, Kylie. I've got some new sprites in progress based on these sketches, so I hope I'll be able to show those off soon!

Minor update to my game, we've got the ability to use items on all characters in the player's party as well as assign weapons to all characters in the player's party. Now to just work on adding text that tells you what item you've just used.

Speaking of new website updates I've been working on that I mentioned in my thread, I've got my bluesky feed to show up on the main page of my website, so now when you visit my website, you're greeted with a video from my YouTube channel as well as a scrollable container with my bluesky feed!
be back on my feet soon and can push an update out in time for screenshot Saturday as well.
-my website and putting my game on the backlog, but I assure you, once this winter term ends in a couple of weeks and I'm no longer sick, I will def be back working on my game at least part time!
In the meantime, I hope you all can forgive me for lack of updates on my game, but here's hoping I'll-
Hey everyone! Sorry for the lack of posting about my game. I've been battling the flu and also got swamped with work from winter term courses (I'm supposed to graduate in a couple of weeks when the winter term is over) and I've been working on all my university work as well as working on stuff on-
These sketches are both done by me, but my concept artist has more sketches we've been working on and my sprite artist was the one who went over one of my sketches with colour just to block out how to do the sprite.
Not neccessarily a screenshot Saturday, but my sprite artist, my concept artist and I are all working out a new design for Magical Girl Saga's main player character, Jeanne. We have a good start so far and my sprite artist is working on a sprite based on the new design.
Plus I also linked my Google Workspace so I can get email notifs on my phone, so I'll always know when someone's submitted a form to contact me.
Not a game update this time, but a website update! I added in a contact form on my contact info page using Nodemailer and my Google Workspace account, so now people can reach out to me through my website!

Eventually, all weapons will have a unique set of attacks to use and the attack option won't be able to be used without a weapon equipped (but magic is still useable regardless of whether a weapon is equipped and some magic will deal damage when used)
