Will .. & Grace. Wait, so this was an Augustinian allegory all along?

Yes, best read of 2025! Been reading a lot on Augustine and the period lately, but it’s Brown’s formulations and insights that stay with me.

Chora Church in Istanbul: [Displays beautiful Byzantine mosaics and frescos depicting Bible scenes and other Christian imagery]
Son: [interrupts me as I am patiently trying to explain the Anastasis motif] LOOK DAD, THEY’RE DOING THE 6-7!!
Ok, ClassicsBlueskyCrowd! I’m going to Istanbul for the first time next week. Please hit me up with your recommendations for what a historically interested (esp. Greek/Byzantine/early Christian) tourist should do, beyond the obvious stuff. Also very interested in restaurant recommendations!
Min datter spørger: “hvorfor læser du om en flodhest?”
They tell me that opting out may limit the impact of the book. All the same, I’m inclined not to sign. Are there others in the same situation who have thoughts/insights on this matter?
Seeking advice from colleagues and friends #classicssky, #ancientsky: the press that has recently published by book is now asking me to sign a AI addendum that would allow them to include the volume in future AI licensing deals. 1/2
📚 Congratulations to @andersdahlsorensen.bsky.social (Copenhagen) on the publication of a new edition, translation, and commentary of 'Anonymus Iamblichi'!
🏛️ Anders produced the majority of this book as a Durham COFUND postdoc in 2018-20.

A new edition of the fragments of ‘Anonymus Iamblichi’, fresh off the CUP
Unboxing day! Thanks to all the many people who helped along the way. I hope it’ll generate some interest in these fascinating fragments. Among other things they’re about a people’s own responsibility for preserving its democracy. So not entirely irrelevant for our current moment.
@cathomsen.bsky.social in conversation with Marie-Louise Nosch on the occasion of the publication of his ‘Stemmer fra Antikken’. What can we learn about the ancient Greek world by listening to those voices that are rarely allowed to speak in our sources: the women, the poor, and the enslaved?
Thanks Carol!
Anonymus now has a homepage! Out in February, inshallah. Still no price listed, but I’m sure it’ll be reasonable.

Exactly. And perhaps to be explained by a similar unease about such excretions?
Apologies for the vulgar example, but can we compare “cum” used as a noun in English sexual slang?

Tak, Helene!
As an undeserved break from grading, I made a starter pack. I've no doubt made lots of mistakes, and I hope you'll help me correct them. But I also hope it's helpful to some people who are interested in ancient Greek philosophy.
Update: The Danish government drops its proposal to cut funding for Greek and Latin in gymnasia.

Spent the morning reading some Neopythagorean texts, in memory of Holger Thesleff (1924-2023).
