Persons With Multiple Sclerosis Reveal Distinct Kynurenine Pathway Metabolite Patterns | Neurology Neuroimmunology & Neuroinflammation Background and ObjectivesKynurenine pathway (KP) metabolites modulate inflammatory activity and neuronal viability. The consequences of KP imbalance partly resemble the molecular mechanisms of multipl...

In this fantastic collaborative project with colleagues from Norway, @tu-dortmund.bsky.social @au.dk @uni-saarland.de, our outstanding PhD student @mkupjetz.bsky.social has shed light on distinct kynurenine pathway patterns in persons with #multiplesclerosis.

Exercise training restores longevity‐associated tryptophan metabolite 3‐hydroxyanthranilic acid levels in middle‐aged adults Aim Recent pre-clinical evidence suggests that the tryptophan metabolite 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid (3-HAA) and the related enzyme activity along the kynurenine metabolic pathway (KP) are associated ...

Check out our new paper now out in Acta Physiologica on the tryptophan metabolite 3-HAA in the aging and exercise context 👇

Altered immune landscape of cervical lymph nodes reveals Epstein-Barr virus signature in multiple sclerosis Deep cervical lymph nodes of patients with MS have an altered B cell compartment that, in part, transcriptionally resembles an EBV infection.

This week in #Science #Immunology: researchers @ @helsinki.fi characterize #immune landscape of deep cervical #LymphNodes in newly diagnosed untreated patients w #MultipleSclerosis! Authors uncover several lines of evidence strengthening possible link btw #MS & Epstein–Barr virus ( #EBV ) infection!

Acute exercise rewires the proteomic landscape of human immune cells Exercise-driven alterations of the immune system are a key mechanism in the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Here, we performed mass spectrometry-based proteomics analysis on peripheral b...

Happy to share our new preprint, where we investigate the impact of acute exercise on the proteome of immune cell! Comparing high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) and moderate-intensity continuous exercise (MICE), we found numerous proteins that were differentially expressed in PBMCs. (1/12)

While first countries blacklisted MDPI for their unserious and harmful publishing culture, German universities signed contracts with this china hosted predator publisher…what a waste of tax payer money!

The strain on scientific publishing Abstract. Scientists are increasingly overwhelmed by the volume of articles being published. The total number of articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science has grown exponentially in recent years; ...

Finding the right journal is crucial and may influence careers! Of note first countries have blacklisted some publishers. A must read for all PIs, Post Docs and PhD Students:

I fully agree that null results are equally important and should be published. Still do not see any reason to support MDPI and Frontiers…neither with money, nor intellectual input as reviewer or author…In the end they undermine the integrity of our labs, PhDs, etc.

Recently, I have been on a grant review panel and a few members judged applications by the PI’s H index and impact factor of the previous papers - I objected. What has that to do with the strength of the proposed project?
