In this fantastic collaborative project with colleagues from Norway, @tu-dortmund.bsky.social @au.dk @uni-saarland.de, our outstanding PhD student @mkupjetz.bsky.social has shed light on distinct kynurenine pathway patterns in persons with #multiplesclerosis.

Welchen Einfluss hat Sport auf unsere Gesundheit? Lassen sich Immunzellen durch gezieltes Training beeinflussen? Kann man Sport sogar MS-Patienten Linderung verschaffen? Daran forschen Prof. Philipp Zimmer vom Institut für Sport und Sportwissenschaft & sein Team. www.youtube.com/watch?v=h58Y...
@agingdoc.bsky.social something for you;)
Check out our new paper now out in Acta Physiologica on the tryptophan metabolite 3-HAA in the aging and exercise context 👇

This week in #Science #Immunology: researchers @ @helsinki.fi characterize #immune landscape of deep cervical #LymphNodes in newly diagnosed untreated patients w #MultipleSclerosis! Authors uncover several lines of evidence strengthening possible link btw #MS & Epstein–Barr virus ( #EBV ) infection!
Happy to share our new preprint, where we investigate the impact of acute exercise on the proteome of immune cell! Comparing high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) and moderate-intensity continuous exercise (MICE), we found numerous proteins that were differentially expressed in PBMCs. (1/12)

While first countries blacklisted MDPI for their unserious and harmful publishing culture, German universities signed contracts with this china hosted predator publisher…what a waste of tax payer money!

And there is this.... bsky.app/profile/carl...
Scientific publishing cannot be free but an annual $2.5 billion seems excessive to me
Finding the right journal is crucial and may influence careers! Of note first countries have blacklisted some publishers. A must read for all PIs, Post Docs and PhD Students:

Unbelievable to see our second @BrainBehavImm paper out in 2024🍾 @S_Proschinger @SergenBelen @maritschlagheck @TU_Dortmund and @SpohoKoeln 💪 Here we show that multimodal exercise training provokes Natalizumab-like effects in MS:

I fully agree that null results are equally important and should be published. Still do not see any reason to support MDPI and Frontiers…neither with money, nor intellectual input as reviewer or author…In the end they undermine the integrity of our labs, PhDs, etc.
Impossible😂 But why the hell submitting there??? Publishing in MDPI may be the best way to kill a PhD students career before it even started:

How does exercise exert preventive and therapeutic effects in different diseases? What is the molecular basis of these effects and how are exercise signals mediated on a cellular level? A 🧵on our lates review in Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy:

Thanks a lot to @50823zimmer.bsky.social and @niklasjoisten.bsky.social for the great supervision and input along the way and to Tiffany for the endless hours discussing mechanistic details! Cheers!🥂 (13/13)
As always this project would not have been possible without the help of numerous collaborators. A special thanks to @50823zimmer.bsky.social , Alan Metcalfe and @niklasjoisten.bsky.social who planned and conducted the trials and to Alexander Schenk, who performed hundreds of PCRs. (12/13)

Recently, I have been on a grant review panel and a few members judged applications by the PI’s H index and impact factor of the previous papers - I objected. What has that to do with the strength of the proposed project?
