Across 6 studies, we determined that people believe Democrats and Republicans alike approve of extreme members more than moderate members. People also think Democrats and Republicans view extreme members as more loyal and principled than moderate members

It seems only fitting that our (Laurie O'Brien, aaronjmoss.bsky.social, Jake Appleby) paper on political deviants would get published on inauguration day. New pub in JASP assessed how Americans believe Democrats/Republicans view extreme and moderate members in their own political party.
Happy to see all of the @spspnews.bsky.social SPUR mentees present today! Beyond grateful to have started some exciting research focusing on intragroup meta-stereotype within the Mexican/Mexican America communities.
The SPAIR lab is excited to present our work at #SSSS2024
Our big take-home message was that peopleβs disgust sensitivity impacts their perceptions of male same-sex CNM relationships but not perceptions of female same-sex CNM relationships
I would echo the workshop suggestion. If you want easy to use books for your students, I like Andy Fieldβs book in general for starting to learn stats/R. I also like the βQuantitative Applications in the Social Sciencesβ series at Sage. They have a lot of R code resources and examples.
I recently got funding to look at how perceptions of social norms in STEM fields impact STEM majors sense of belonging. I am still finalizing materials so I wanted to offer to add scales/measures for anyone interested in collaborating. This will be at Kennesaw State University.

One factor that did matter was whether the victim or a bystander reported the harassment. Having a bystander report resulted in people viewing the claim as more legitimate than when the victim reported it. This suggests important implications for bystander interventions.
Overall, the sexual orientation of the woman in our study did not impact perceptions of her sexual harassment claim. Lesbian women were not seen as more of a complainer or as more to blame for their sexual harassment than heterosexual women.
Really excited to share a new publication in the Journal of Homosexuality. Across four studies, we assessed if the sexual orientation of a sexual harassment victim impacted perceptions of the sexual harassment claim.

If you like The Poppy War, I suggest other R.F. Kuang. I am finishing up Yellowface now. My favorite read of 2023 was Seven Days In June by Tia Miller. They are also releasing a new novel in 2024. In 2022, my favorite was Circe by Madeline Miller.
I have colleagues at Kennesaw State University doing really important work on faculty awareness around unsheltered student populations. If you work in higher education, please consider filling out their survey!

My Wisconsinite heart is οΏΌsad to miss SESP cause Madison is my favorite city. I hope everyone is able to enjoy a Wisconsin (Brandy) old fashion and real squeaky cheese curds. π₯π§
A few people going to SESP have asked for Madison suggestions, so here's a (non-comprehensive) list of some of my favorites. #PsychSciSky #socialpsyc #AcademicSky
Atlanta having their pride event/parades during the fall really makes me appreciate the city a little more. Pride and pumpkin beerβ¦yes please! π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈ
