I've never really understood the draw of CRT shaders... well, until I made one!

Here's a high-res screenshot of the game that got me hooked. I rendered at ๐Ÿ”8x zoom to hopefully let the details come out. Ah, I've such fond memories of the gb/gbc!

Yeah, I get what you're saying. But that perceived waste has to be weighed up against the complexity cost of the solutions that you're exploring. It's really difficult thinking vs. just making stuff work.

If you can make the trade-offs with round trip time and inefficient compression, I love this stuff. But it's a local minimum of sorts that I don't know shakes out for anything other than having fun writing cleaner code. It's hard to say it's good general principles in every case.

Why do you think I love LINQ so much? Every time I use C# I experiment with keeping large parts of the API as lazy abstractions that downstream can remix as required.

Iโ€™m working on an indoor map.
After learning a bit about 2D lighting and placing some lights, the atmosphere changed dramatically.
Iโ€™m really like it. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Have you ever wanted to iterate every cell from a Rect in Godot?? What do you think of this? ๐Ÿ˜… Should I clean this up and make a PR? #godot #gamedev

Some rough code that tracks state changes and executes snippets on the rising/falling edges.

Some rough code that tracks state changes and executes snippets on the rising/falling edges.

Maybe something this works? If you track the change of state over time you can turn a continuous signal into a pulsed one. But there's not a magic once statement sadly. The variable has to live somewhere and the compiler isn't sure what you want.

Because it's ambiguous, what is X? Where is it stored? Does it apply to every caller of this function? Or just this object? Who is responsible for it? When you break down what the code is doing, you need to define what the "once" statement eventually does. It's easier to let people roll their own.
