I prefer the DIY kit, which comes with a big ol’ boar and some bamboo sticks. It’s a lot of work. But it’s worth it in the end.

Filing them will also bring the strings closer to the frets. So, if you like your action, no filing. Of course, if you’d like them to be lower… file away! Go slow and you’ll (probably) be just fine.

Don’t go to woodcraft if there’s one near you. Most good sized cities have a couple hardwood suppliers. Some will let you pick through to find good boards. If you’re not picky I’d call them and see what they suggest. Might have a surplus of something they want to sell.

I feel like baking can be a team sport, too.
