Kevin Tumlinson on Facebook: So far, regarding the Draft2Digital fees, the response I see from the industry insiders is "It's only $12 a year, what's the problem?" The problem is that it's only being charged to the LOWEST EARNING authors. If it were a charge every author had to pay, regardless of sales, it wouldn't look so much like a money grab. D2D is doing this for good reasons, and it's a good business decision. But it looks very bad to the author who took a chance, wrote the book, and didn't get any sales. I have literally seen authors say they're walking away from publishing because "clearly I'm not good enough." So to my fellow industry insiders: Remember who we're doing all this for in the first place. Show just a bit of compassion here, rather than trying to make these authors feel foolish for having qualms over what you think is small cash.

So Draft2Digital says "btw we allow books made by AI but we're so overrun with garbage that we're going to charge you stupid little indies that make less than $100 a year a $12 fee because of all the AI" and then Bluesky was down for hours bc it's run by AI coding. But somehow AI is a GOOD thing.

It's obvious the real reason for your "maintenance fee" is that you don't feel the money you make from lower-selling authors is enough to maintain our accounts in terms of server space etc. But instead of being honest about the expense of maintaning such accounts, you fed us a line about the expense of policing for AI slop. If that was really your reason, you'd charge everyong the fee. You're targeting the lowest-earning authors because you want us off your platform, plain and simple. So fine. Bye.

I very rarely give a date in my stories. Voracity and the Early Adopter series are the rare exceptions. Everything else are kept vague, but there are hints in the tech they use, and what media they would've consumed at the time. There's at least a 10 year gap.

I've mostly done WIPSnips, as it's one of the few I could find. WIll give the others a shot, thanks!

It's the pain of starting over and not being able to find...people I mesh with, I guess? The social part of social media. I was active in hashtags for a bit, which helped me feel a little less invisible, but beyond that I'm stumped.

I've tried writing romance in the past, but I can't say I've been successful with it. I'd say part of it is due to being aromantic, but I also don't find it enjoyable to write. I've gone back to embracing pre-established couples to avoid the tedium.

That said, I still don't know what I'm doing here, or how to like...utilize this space. Makes it hard to stick around.
