A bounce house with razor sharp teeth and tentacle wings flying off the ground. A family runs away in terror. The father shouts, "it's taking flight! The son shouts to the family dog, "Sparky! Wait for us!" Sparky shouts back in perfect human language, "Nope!" The text reads: Never use a bounce house if it's windy. Wind speed should be no more than 15 to 25 miles per hour. Make sure your bounce house is properly staked and anchored on a flat, even surface.
It's Bounce House season.

tired: you can pet the dog in this game
wired: you can be the dog in this game
inspired: you can be two dogs in this game and each level ends with them snuggling in a comfy bed

as someone who pays a LOT of attention to indie games, sometimes i discover a weird trend that i feel like i have to document for y'all
for example: right now frog based platformers are really popular???
in honor of that here's 11 old, new, and coming soon amphibian games that i think are cool!!

This is somehow the most haunting bit of in-game lore I have ever read.

Pop can is too long and not immediately recognizable
Cloud shoe doesn't quite ready as a shoe and is kinda small
Pugzy with her soda jetpack, even with her body blocking half the can, it's clear what's happening
Omg this cloud sneaker is so cute 🥺
Context matters so much. My first attempts at drawing two power ups (soda jetpack and cloud shoe) didn't have Pugzy for reference and once I pulled her into the canvas it changed everything.

Lumpy potato with lumpy wings
Biblically accurate potato angel
Another example of subtle tweaks to pixel art to get it just right. #potato #angel #pixelart

if you wanted to hear a very long discussion about the state of indie games circa 2013ish (and hear us talk about an extremely underrated Michael Brough game as well) look no further than our esteemed group on this episode

A hand holding a crossstitch embroidery in a hot pink frame. It features a white on black design, with an art nouveau border. The text reads "live laugh losing it", with a glitch effect on "losing it"
NEW PATTERN ✨
This one was outta my comfort zone, but MAN was it fun to stitch.

Pug Z Pizza watches as their beautiful ally is transformed into a mathstrosity by Cal Q Gator
Even though I didn't design kissyface with a math direction in mind, it occured to me that Cal Q Gator could fly in Kamek style and sprinkle MATH on her to transform her into a boss. The terrifying Queen of Eights. #pixelart #pugzpizza

Trying to follow @adamatomic.bsky.social's advice and go "with the grain" of my brain a bit more. This kissyheart-butterfly emerged from the block of marble tonight. #screenshotsunday #pixelart

A drawing in Mario Paint of a female Bowser-like character, captioned "KOOPA'S WIFE BIBINBA"
The names considered for Bowser by Miyamoto were Yukke and Bibinba, after yukhoe, a Korean raw meat dish and bibimbap, a Korean rice and vegetable dish. The name Miyamoto ended up choosing, Kuppa, is based on gukbap, a Korean beef soup.

A 1994 Japanese Nintendo catalog included a sample image to illustrate the capabilities of Mario Paint that depicts "KOOPA'S WIFE BIBINBA". While the character is likely not canon, her name is based on a discarded name for Bowser, so it may have been drawn by a Nintendo employee.

Are you familiar with the idea of games as the "aesthetic form of systems"? I think I first encountered the concept via Naomi Clark, but Frank Lantz has also written about it extensively. Systems could be a synonym for state machine.

BIG HOPS combines Mario Odyssey-style fluid movement with Breath of the Wild-style systemic interactions and A Hat in Time-style wit and charm. I created a perpetual chain reaction that spawned hundreds of items with their own physics and the game engine barely even blinked.

Or we need to study the actual history of games more: folk games, card games, carnival games, sports, electromechanical games, etc etc

It is hard for me to overstate how powerful #GBstudio 4.2 is. I was able to go from no slopes to dynamic slope speeds and animations with just a few hours of tinkering. #gbdev #indiedev

The beta release of @gbstudio.dev 4.2 integrates @pdmcdonald.bsky.social's incredible Platformer Plus module into the main #GBstudio app. It's an incredible gift to #indiedevs, so of course I celebrated by creating a gift object and adding a ground pound move to open it.

I think that history actually needs more distance than 5 years to become interesting as history. Like this is a prime time to be looking back at Gamecube or Wii era for stories
