Screenshot, white text on black background saying Avogato @Avogato_ Aren't time zones amazing? In Australia it's tomorrow. In Europe it's tonight. And in the US, it's 1942 where minorities, women, and LGBT are still under assault by old white men. 10/2/18, 3:08 PM
Posted this back in 2018, we’re still in that time warp

Not only are China’s emissions dropping as they rapidly decarbonise, but their solar exports are helping to rapidly decarbonise the rest of the world. If the West wasn’t dead set on making every aspect of our lives run on the least efficient power-hungry AI models we’d be looking pretty positive.

Israel has committed 2,400 violations of the 'ceasefire' deal struck with Hamas in October, Gaza officials say.
All Education is investment, as is healthcare, except the Neoliberal doctrine looks at everything as a cost and you'll have to pay for it.
"Any of us can be protestors and we are all members of communities"
@rcquaker.bsky.social gave evidence at the Joint Committee on Human Rights' inquiry on the expansion of police powers and the impact on the right to protest.
Watch this and then try to explain how people protecting a mosque from far-right rioters can also be deemed terrorists for holding a piece of paper in Parliament Square.
The law is an ass* and so is the government
*that was the polite version
😲 🚲 Families could save thousands of pounds a year by switching from a second-hand car to an electric cargo bike & public transport.

There should be a mandatory parking charge at all public car parks.
It's insane that you can drive whatever you want to a shop and park for free, but then pay for any carrier bags on environmental grounds.
The tax for bags changed public behaviour. I think a "parking tax" would do similar.
30 hossifers of the law, armed with tasers, just happened to be passing The Friends Meeting House, and thought they could smell sedition.

🤔 They arrested the same woman, who 2 years ago took them to court for her arrest of holding the same sign; where the judge ruled it is not illegal to hold this sign
The UK needs a much bigger clampdown on dodgy driving.
Much stiffer penalties for ghost plates too, with 3rd party reporting.
Link between insurance, vehicle and owner data, and convictions so nothing relies on goodwill or honesty.
Predator capitalists using publicly funded spaces to rake profits and then campaign against additional funding to repair the harm they cause to the public realm.
But yeah sure….. bloody cyclists
Yes, Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term “dark matter” which is impressive, but he also coined the term “spherical bastard” to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more.

“The infamous Koch brothers have bankrolled climate deniers, propped up polluting industries, and even tried to turn the black community pro-fossil fuel. But, as a recent New York Times story shows, the billionaire conservatives have been steadily exerting pressure against public transit as well.”
Of course, the people who wanted Brexit are going to be those who condemn this payment the loudest.
Before Brexit, there were no small boat crossings, you fuckwits.
While we are transfixed by the antics of our supposed "leaders", a catastrophe of astonishing proportions has been creeping up on us. Climate scientists now believe it is more likely than not to happen, and soon.

7 wks of fighting Iran just cost the US 45% of its Precision Strike Missile stockpile. 50% of Patriot and THAAD interceptors. 30% of Tomahawks. CSIS says it will take 1 to 4 years to replenish. All while failing to achieve a single strategic objective and turning the US into a global laughing stock.

Reform hopeful said Nazis were 'real visionaries' Fintan Hogan, Constance Kampfner - Northern Correspondent Nathaniel Menday has described himself as an ethno-nationalist Reform UK has been accused of "systemic failure" in its vetting after candidates were found to have described the Nazis as "real visionaries", complained immigrants bred "like rats" and encouraged Southport rioters to burn down a mosque.
Incredible really that our media and political landscape is dominated by crisis about Starmer’s fitness for office, while it simultaneously paves the way for corrupt, racist Reform to take power.
Do we actually care about integrity at all? Because if we did… this shitshow wouldn’t stand a chance…
Forever chemicals were introduced into every frying pan and much clothing at around the same time as the fertility rate started falling. I know correlation isn't proof but it can be very informative.

📣 New research by us and @cleancitiescampaign.org shows families can save thousands a year by ditching their car for an electric #cargobike.
“It's way cheaper and faster than a car, and our favourite way to get all three kids around London," says family cargo e-bike convert Dr Chris Van Tulleken.
It’s would be kind of weird though, to be sanctioning a country who at the same time you provide weapons, intelligence and propaganda to.
I’m proud to be a founding supporter of a new cross-party initiative to prevent poverty, with @tap-uk.bsky.social. In Bristol Central, almost a quarter of children are growing up in absolute poverty. I’ll be pushing for urgent action on both a local and national level.
BANANA (“build absolutely nothing anywhere near anything”) has been around for decades as a more nuclear version of NIMBY, but seems to be seeing a resurgence lately.
Other old ones:
NOPE - “not on planet earth”
CAVE - “citizens against virtually everything”
NIMTOO - “not in my term of office”
Brilliant!
