At work, we often anaesthetise, perform surgery on, and tag juvenile fish. We wanted to find out if these procedures impact their oxygen consumption in the following days. Good news, we didn't find cause for concern! 🙂

My PhD student’s latest paper: Isotopic Niche Overlap of Four Large Pelagic Predatory Fish Species in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean. A must-read for anyone interested in tunas, trophic ecology, and isotopes. Excellent work by Nathan Stewart on this paper! cdnsciencepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...
The Braasch Lab @fishevodevogeno.bsky.social will soon post a position to replace manager of our *Ancient Fish Facility* at Michigan State. Looking for aquaculturist excited for unusual 🐟 species (gar, bowfin, paddlefish, polypterus) + zebrafish. Pls send candidates our way (DM or braasch@msu.edu)!

That's a wrap for the York River! 🎉 We collected eDNA samples at 8 locations along the river to detect saprolegnia, striped bass, rainbow trout, and Atlantic salmon. Next up: the St. Anne and Cascapedia Rivers!

About 15-20 yrs ago, a bunch of reviews (inc. 1 by me) made predictions about the future of genomics in conservation. 1 yr ago at ICISB, Robin Waples assessed which of those predictions had been fulfilled. Sam May & Sam Rosenbaum now led the effort to turn this into a review:
