I still have #Hoppers on my mind. Was trying to figure out what would be a majestic non-salmon non-sturgeon fish species befitting Beaverton's Animal Council, so here is a prickly sculpin (Cottus asper) imagined as the Fish Queen. All hail the Fish Queen!! #SundayFishSketch #PondRules 🦑🐡🧪

Watercolor painting of a Common Remora (aka Suckerfish), Remora remora. While they are undeniably ugly, shark suckers are not vampires—they do not feed directly on the host. Instead, they use sharks to lower their energy consumption, since, if they hang on to a shark, they don’t have to swim or hunt for themselves.

Watercolor painting of a Mushroomcoral Pipefish, Siokunichthys nigrolineatus. This tiny seahorse cousin is about 8mm (1/8th of an inch) in diameter. This finishes my set of seahorses and other Syngnathiformes in honor of Project Seahorse. Next up: a set of ten ‘Ugly Fish,’ because ugly fish need love, too.

An illustration of three Chinese Paddlefish swimming in the Yangtze River. Hints of blue sky can be seen through the turquoise water surface. The river bottom is silty and sloping downward. This is still a work in progress, so the paddlefish don't have a lot of detail yet, but the viewer can see the basic colors. They are a darker gray on top, and fade to a cream/white on their bellies. Two of the fish are swimming closer to the river bottom, and one is swimming above them, almost in silhouette along the light of the water surface.
