Also known as the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, the Chinese white dolphin is a major indicator of environmental health since they are especially sensitive to environmental changes. Indicator species, such as the Chinese white dolphin, signal the health of the entire ecosystem, including the fish populations and coral reefs that support them. The discovery of such a big pod suggests conservation efforts to protect the Chinese white dolphin's habitat are not only working and having a positive impact, but are necessary to safeguard this endangered species and all the other species in their food web. It's also cause for celebration for Hainan. The island relies on its appeal as an ecotourism hotspot, which comes from its diverse and unique marine ecosystem. For example, Namdapha National Park cameras in India caught a rare glimpse of the endangered white-eared night heron.
