The US remains a grim outlier when it comes to pedestrian safety, with deaths rising by half between 2013 + 2022," while other rich nations saw a 25% decline ... "the US ... is a perfect storm, w/ high-speed arterials, distraction from phones + big SUVs contributing to the problem."

Dare to say them, yes!
The Post-Gazette will survive, but won't thrive in PGH without robust local coverage and good-faith bargaining w/ the workers who fought so hard for their rights, the PG + their neighbors. Please join me in this pledge to support the new PG ... with conditions.

Can we just get this over with? It's all over but the re-printing of the business cards. PLEASE join the GOP, @fetterman.senate.gov. Also, please return the $200+ in donations I sent you for your last run, which was clearly fraudulent. Check your inbox.

What an unfortunate sign of the times. I am fortunate to have a few Hampshire alums as friends.
A simple two-word summation of the Trump Doctrine: โbreak shit.โ
If you havenโt heard about it yet, the youths are super into IRL human interactions, no AI, and โphysical mediaโ (vinyl! DVDs! tapes!) right now and itโs glorious.
Like there are 20yo influencers that just read old paper books and talk about feelings.
Exciting changes are happening in Pittsburgh journalism! I'm sorry to have missed this meeting, but this video summary by the @pghguild.com shows that it was a productive and inspiring one!

All of these points, and: Hungary will now be led by an elder Millennial? Congratulations and thanks to the people of Hungary for their resolve, bravery, and vision!

So much effort has gone into cleaning up the city for the NFL Draft. In the future, I'm hoping that even a fraction of that energy will translate into people maybe thinking twice before they litter in the first place(?)

After several requests in person and calling his office, Council member Coghill sent a cleanup crew to Shawhan Avenue + Brookline Boulevard this past week. They picked up a lot of trash -- not only along the street, but deep into the brush. As a close neighbor, I'm grateful.

Very cruel. I'll never understand why this kind of punking/pranking is considered humor in so many circles.
... and listen to them talk about what a chore it is to learn and create music. Why bother? Just let AI do it for you!
Apparently, people are filing FOIAs to find out what info DOGE has on them. Seems like a good idea.
Thank you for your hosting these #NoKings meetings, Ash-Lee. It's not a common skill, but you're a master of it!
... and after 75+ years in business, JOANN Fabric was recently destroyed by the debt piled onto it by Tomi's pals in private equity.
MAGA math: A 1.5% win = "a landslide."
Thank you, Pittsburgh! Due to my work schedule, I attended the Mt. Lebanon protest a few miles away. A much smaller event, but wonderful nonetheless.
As a woman, a Democracy-first American voter, a secular/unaffiliated "None" (who nonetheless respects religion and believes that combining it with politics cheapens both, at a minimum), and a poll worker over multiple elections, all I can say is ...

'We donโt need ICE at the airport where TSA lines have remained short + manageable,' she said. 'Local ICE agents should skip the Pittsburgh Int. Airport, which is not requesting help.'" โ๏ธ

ICE has come to Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood, detaining employees from the well-loved Latino-owned grocery Las Palmas (locations in Brookline + neighboring Beechview). It's the place we make a run to if we're low on a few items, a 5-minute walk from our house. ๐คฌ

I just subscribed for $5/month. I was absolutely gutted when the City Paper shuttered and am thrilled to have it back.
Petsitting photo of my week, and it's only Wednesday: Gidget the big sis black poodle + her (unrelated but bonded) little brother Bennett. No pavement accumulation, but black poodles were a different story -- they were dusted w/ snow from one of yesterday's fast squalls like confectioner's sugar <3
