Happy #CtenophoreDay (10/4)! Last month, my picture of a cteno illustrated the cover of the latest paper of @annaferraioli.bsky.social & @pawelburkhardt.bsky.social lab on the Aboral Organ of Mnemiopsis. Zoom in on the centre of the image to see a white dot: the AO www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Thank you for the support!
Thanks for sharing our work!
Our new book chapter on the culture of gelatinous plankton is out! Written with Miguel Candelas Pérez and @joanjsoto.bsky.social. Check out the book by using this link or contacting me: ecosur.repositorioinstitucional.mx/jspui/handle...
Many thanks to the editor María A. Mendoza Becerril.
The cover of the journal Science Advances highlights the article described in this thread. On the cover, a comb jelly is viewed from above on a black background. Above, the mention "Sciences Advances" and "6 March 2026". On the bottom left, the logo of AAAS.
Congratulations to all the authors 👏 A special mention goes to @alexandrejan.bsky.social for a gorgeous cover image!

Congratulations Joan !!
Honored to illustrate the work of @annaferraioli.bsky.social and the team of @pawelburkhardt.bsky.social featured in Science Advances. Check it out!
Always great to visit Bergen Aquarium and see comb jellies exhibited in all their beauty 🌈
The comb jellies are now part of a permanent exhibit at the aquarium. #ctenophores #Bergen #aquarium

It’s such a joy working with these beautiful animals 😍😍
Huge thanks to @alexandrejan.bsky.social for capturing my gorgeous little creatures!
Can’t wait to share more cuke science and photos soon — stay tuned!

Happy #worldjellyfishday 🪼
Here is a juvenile Chrysaora colorata, one of my favourite species of scyphomedusa, native to the Californian coast.
Happy #worldjellyfishday, everyone 🪼🪼🪼!
Jellyfish (and their blooms) are a fundamental part of marine ecosystems, significantly contributing to carbon transport and storage. An ocean without jellyfish would not be a healthy ocean.

A new paper just dropped a little while ago describing a new family for a common species of benthic ctenophore (comb jellies), Coeloplana meteoris, now known as Benthoplana meteoris. www.jse.ac.cn/EN/10.1111/j...
It swims to the LEFT (lobes and mouth first in search of prey) and to the RIGHT for a quick escape.
I'm looking forward to your article about Pleurobrachia.
For the mouth, I would vote 1.
It was a good attempt, but those species are found in the North Sea, North Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, except one species from Japan
Mnemiopsis leidyi
Beroe cucumis
Coeloplana (Benthoplana) meteoris
Pleurobrachia pileus (2x)
Callianira bialata
Hormiphora plumosa
Bolinopsis infundibulum
Bolinopsis, Leucothea, Mnemiopsis, Lampocteis, Beroe x3, Pleurobrachia, Haeckelia, sp. RedX, and Euplokamis, great catch!
Impressive drawings, @beziostudio.bsky.social! So realistic — even some parasites are sneaking into the Beroe 🤯
Happy Ctenophore Day!
These glowing ocean drifters look like jellyfish but aren’t! They’re comb jellies, shimmering creatures that light up the sea with rows of beating cilia 💙🌈
Which species can you identify? 👀 Most are raised in @pawelburkhardt.bsky.social lab

🌊 Happy World Ocean Day! 🌊
To celebrate the beauty and wonder of the Ocean, here is a close-up series of the jellyfish Cyanea lamarckii 🪼
These images were exhibited at the @universitetsmuseet.bsky.social inviting us to appreciate the ocean’s wonders up close.

Four people stand behind a booth in the Bergen University Museum Whale Hall. A skeleton is visible hanging from the ceiling, there are glass cases with specimens. At the booth, an aquarium, a laptop and scientific drawings are displayed.
An aquarium with comb jellies, lit from the side to highlight their delicate shape, is displayed on a table covered in a black tablecloth.
It was an honor to take part in the celebration of 200 years of knowledge at @universitetsmuseet.bsky.social, together with colleagues from across @unibergen.bsky.social departments 🎉🎂 The Burkhardt group showcased comb jellies in the Museum's majestic whale hall ✨ @pawelburkhardt.bsky.social
