WAKE UP KOGONADA NATION: There is now a first teaser of ZI, his poetic, entrancing, & quietly exhilarating new film starring Michelle Mao, Haley Lu Richardson, & Jin Ha. It's a real wonder, like LA JETÉE meets BEFORE SUNRISE.

I'm not waiting to get stitches or something, but I'm watching a random episode of the Golden Girls from 1991. Everyone was up late and wondering where Dorothy was. To the camera, deadpan and with a thousand-yard stare, Rose says, "Maybe she was sold into white slavery." 😂

Acquainted with the Night

By Robert Frost
I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain—and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

This picture of Astronaut Christina Koch after the Artemis landing is frankly incredible and beautiful.

Irreversible Entanglements — Future Present Past (Impulse!) Future Present Past is the fifth album released by the avant jazz quintet Irreversible Entanglements, and their second for Impulse! Records. This time out, spoken word plays a large role in the...

“The result is a colloquy that retains rigorous musical interplay with an equally kaleidoscopic verbal collage,” writes Christian Carey. dustedmagazine.tumblr.com/post/8141542... @cbcarey.bsky.social

“It’s a couple of things that work beautifully in concert. First: no music. Audiences are so sophisticated, but what they’re not accustomed to is not being told how to feel,” Wyle says. “You take all that out and it forces a level of engagement where you’re now looking for clues within the frame of the screen, which forces you to look up from your phone. And I think that is extremely engaging, especially to young viewers who aren’t accustomed to being asked to participate in a nonpassive way in the viewing experience.

“Second point, shooting it with almost exclusively 50-millimeter or 65-millimeter lenses, which is the most comparable to the human eye—and only shooting from the point of view of a human being that’s present in this space. There are no cameras on gurney wheels going in the hallway. There’s no cameras on the ceiling looking down from a God point of view. You are limited to the perspective of a participant. You can look away, but you can’t leave, and it becomes an endurance test for you to stay on your feet as long as we’re on our feet. Which [brings me to my] third point: real time. Real time has an aggregate sense of tension that you don’t get in any other form of storytelling. What happened before is happening now, and these two things are going to add up to the next thing. And if we throw more ingredients into this cooker and keep ratcheting it up, it’s going to pop.”

Wyle makes eye contact for his next point, delivering it with a Robby-esque matter-of-factness. “Fourth point: The election went the other way,” he says with a shrug. “We could have been a really good show with a lot of nice things to say in a perfectly normal Kamala Harris universe. And instead we became almost a beacon of hope and humanity in an alternative universe. But in the midst of that, fifth point—this is essentially competence porn. You’re watching really smart, dedicated people do what only they know how to do at a level that you don’t know how to do it, and you’re so fucking glad that they’re there doing it, and compartmentalizing their own stuff to put your broken pieces back together. You’re so reassured by knowing that there are people out there that laugh and joke and have the ability to lock in like that.”

While Jackie Robinson isn't here to be acknowledged on the day named after him, do you know who is?

Mrs. Rachel Robinson herself.

Who will be turning 104 in July.

And she still serves on the board of the Jackie Robinson Foundation

I adore THE DEVILS but boy howdy is it a draining, nightmarish renunciation of humanity. The soul is torn asunder until there is nothing left but the barren wasteland of this living Hell in front of you.

Maybe the greatest Feel Bad Movie ever made?

This reminds me of Berger's discussion of taxidermy vs. the zoo. The animals in the zoo never meet our gaze, are asleep, or pacing. The drama we want from contact with nature can only come from the dead, stuffed, and posed animal. But here, it's history that can only make eye contact when it's dead.

I think it's really an underrated moral issue (let along a political economy one) that we've sort of let scams and scam adjacent activities (sports betting, car dealerships, most retail interactions with skilled trades, crypto, etc) pervade the economy from top to bottom.

World-first electric triple road train launches in SA Battery change-over can be completed in the same time it takes for traditional refuelling, with the bulk of the electricity coming from renewable energy.

The “batteries can’t handle heavy haul” myth was already dead in 2023. South Australia launched an electric triple road train hauling mining loads at ~160 tonnes gross. Real truck. Real route. Real work. The future doesn’t ask permission from old narratives.

These are not just Iran’s national treasures, they also belong to humanity, as they represent a 2,500 year old civilization

The sad reality is that many of these sites are being damaged in strikes by the US & Israel, which is heartbreaking"
