I mean, if you defeat the trainer's team.. then they are helpless to your hungry mons! Plus, food is expensive, especially for larger ones! Its more economical, especially if their pokemon are eaten too

A sequence of drawings showing an interaction between Emperor the insect monster and Byrups skink sona. Byrup sits on Emperors right shoulder and pokes it for attention, Emperor looks down at Byrup and he stands up to tell it something. The next panel shows Emperor opening its mantis-like mouthparts and wrapping its proboscis around a pleased Byrup, guiding him into its mouth.

The final panel of this sequence, Byrups head peaks out from being wrapped in Emperors proboscis and enclosed in its mouthparts.
