Detail of the imprint reading: Gedrukt in de verdruckerye der rechtzinnige leere, by de erfgenamen van Paus Juth, woonende in de toegemetselde straet tot Romen, aldernaest daermen de overtollige goede wercken der Roomsche Heyligen om ghelt verkoopt, in 't uytgepiste vagevier.
Fictitious imprints deserve their moment.
I’ll go first: 'Printed in the printing office of orthodox doctrine, by the heirs of Pope Juth, residing in Bricked‑Up Street in Rome, right next to the place where the excess good works of the Roman saints are sold for money, in the pissed‑out Purgatory'
I've been a widower for 19 years, never had another partner, and have lived happily on my own, but every year I get older I'm increasingly terrified of what if I lose my (currently buoyant) health.

For #ThrowbackThursday here's a spread from my first trade picture book, 'The Secret in the Matchbox' (words by Val Willis, Andre Deutsch / Farrar Straus & Giroux 1988). #picturebook #kidlitart #kidlitUK
I'm here because my Jewish grandparents escaped the Holocaust. Many of our family were not so fortunate. NEVER AGAIN is supposed to include Iranians. And Palestinians. And Ukrainians. And on and on. There are no exceptions based on religion or country of origin.

"The opposite of democracy. It concentrates power among a small group of exceptionally wealthy dealmakers who reap the benefits of society’s failure to hold them accountable"

Yes, I also resent the advice that to make any kind of impact you have to keep sharing images almost daily on instagram, I think that bubble of faith burst long ago.
100% agree.
I’ve just written to my MP asking them to support the Together Alliance motion against hate and the rise of the far right.
It only takes a minute — will you write to your MP too? actionnetwork.org/letters/invi...
Shot of the early modern open book on a grey book pillow on a wooden table. Inside you see printed text on the verso page and an engraving within an engraved border on the facing recto page
Engraved title page of the book. Designer/Engraver: The title page bears the monogram of Pieter Huys (active 1550–1581), a noted Flemish designer and engraver. Imagery: The design is highly architectural, featuring large, elaborate columns framing the text. In the background, it depicts a Renaissance palazzo or building, which serves as a metaphor for the book’s title, Monuments evoking human salvation. Symbolism: The engraving shows people walking in a foreground square, suggesting the reader is on a balcony or podium overlooking the scene, inviting them to enter the "architectural" structure of the book's theological meditations. Text: At the head of the title is the inscription: "Regi seculor immortali s.".
Early modern book in an elaborate French fanfare binding, featuring dark leather boards decorated with intricate gilt tooling, interlacing strapwork, floral ornaments, and small gold dots.
A new gem in our collection: a remarkable 1571 copy of Plantin’s Humanae salutis monumenta. Because text, borders and plates were printed separately, no two copies are alike. This one is beautifully bound in an exceptional French fanfare binding.

Sad to hear of the passing of #LenDeighton, the author of The Ipcress File and so many other classic novels. What I didn't know until today though, was that he was originally an illustrator! Here's a poster he designed for London Transport in 1957. What a multiply talented man he was!
We're proud to have asked our members to add their names to this empty book, protesting the use of their works without permission. In our house, copyright still matters!

Yes, ditto! I've reported posts that again appear in my feed, a feed that, 10 years ago, was mostly full of posts from people I'm friended with or follow, but now is an unending stream of unsolicited spam & promos.
A stack of watercolors fanned out with just a little bit of each painting visible.
20+ book pages in watercolor. No AI. Plenty of aches, tears, freak outs, and doubts. Countless hours. Occasional panic. The effort is what makes it worth it. #kidlit #kidlitart

Spring is in the air!
Done!!
This is the sort of message we want from every political leader.
Thank you @zackpolanski.bsky.social
Interesting that Charles III is also included in the US list of 'Foreign Leaders', suggesting how many in Trump's America are still living in the 18th Century.
