5 ⭐️s The Gulp by Alan Baxter: Alan Baxter brings us Goosebumps for adults! Didn’t everyone read those creepy young teen books by R.L. Stine? Baxter’s created an adult version that teases the senses with the right mix of vexing characters you’ll want to throttle, cringy-worthy scenes, and gory splatters. There’s an extra bit of twisted creativity tying the stories neatly together in a package called The Gulp. It’s over-the-top fun that fulfills that adult need to choke, giggle, and gag. Wondering how well Alan Baxter sleeps at night…if he sleeps.

Of the Poirot mysteries I’ve read so far, Evil Under The Sun burns my butt at the very end and that’s why it gets 4⭐️ instead of 5. The mystery itself is stunningly contrived by Christie. The characters are laid out like perfect little flowers, each individual carrying its own color, concept, and cleverness. If only the book ended with Chapter 13.2? But there had to be that final sweep up in 13.3, and ugh! 😣 Christie liked clean and tidy endings. I would have preferred Rosemund giving Marshall a little brow-beating for his overreaching assumption. But that’s me and in our day and age, not Christie’s.
