Im Mikrokosmos des Resorts treffen sehr unterschiedliche Charaktere aufeinander: ein junges Ehepaar mit einer kranken Frau, ein Arzt mit zweifelhaftem Ruf, ein reicher Geschäftsmann, ein Priester und seine Schwester und den pensionierten Major Palgrave. Palgrave ist sehr mitteil-sam und gibt die Abenteuer seines bewegten Lebens zum Besten, wobei er es mit der Wahrheit nicht sehr genau nimmt und auch gern Erzählungen Dritter als seine eigenen ausgibt. Eine seiner Geschichten betrifft einen mutmaßlichen Serien-mörder. Er habe unter falscher Identität geheiratet und mindestens zwei seiner Ehefrauen ermordet. Gerade als Palgrave ein Foto des Mörders her-ausholt, um es Miss Marple zu zeigen, verstummt er unver-mittelt, als er jemanden im Hotel entdeckt, den er offenbar wiedererkennt. Am nächsten Tag ist der Major tot, angeblich an Herzversagen. Das Foto fehlt. Miss Marple zweifelt an der offiziellen Erklärung und beginnt, die Gäste des Hotels genauer zu beobachten. Hinter der idyllischen Fassade entdeckt sie ein Netz aus Lügen, Eifersucht und alten Geheimnissen. Schritt für Schritt setzt sie die Hinweise zusammen und kommt dem Täter gefährlich nahe, bevor sie schließlich den Mord aufklärt. Bewertung: Spannend, interessante Charaktere.
