Bingo! My exact reasoning.

I will see any Lowery movie even if I don’t love the last for that reason. Dude’s got signatures that no one else executes.

It’s a rad combo!

Review: MOTHER MARY is a Lusty Pop Idol Ghost Story - Daily Dead To be in a renaissance of uber-stylized popstar thrillers is a glorious thing. Movies like Vox Lux, Smile 2, Sweetness, and Trap find rhythmic tension in melodic suspense that chases characters like s...

MOTHER MARY keeps the streak of engaging pop star genre flicks going strong, but what else did you expect from David Lowery?

A touch of Peter Strickland’s In Fabric, and a dash of Luca Guadagnino’s tantric Suspiria remake set the tone. Beautiful to behold, if a little wordy and too flowery.

Review: LEE CRONIN'S THE MUMMY is a Better Evil Dead Movie Than Mummy Movie - Daily Dead If you ordered a bone-in ribeye and were served orange chicken, how would you react? That's Lee Cronin's The Mummy (henceforth The Mummy). It’s not so much a mummy movie as it is an Evil Dead movie. S...

LEE CRONIN'S THE MUMMY is a mummy flick in Evil Dead cosplay, which becomes a distraction.

It's also too damn long, too damn choppy, and the scope gets away from Cronin at two and a quarter hours long. Weird Choices: The Movie!

Yeah I would have loved a bit punchier approach to the horrors, but I don’t think the director ever wanted to veer that way!

Oh my god for sure. I was thinking Raimi’s production company, but both are WB, totally. That makes it even weirderrr.

I leave that to interpretation! It was a blocker for me, but if what I’m saying gets you excited, then hell yeah.

I’m all for people finding out for themselves. So, I like to let me writing be both a warning and selling point, depending on the person.

Honestly would make all the sense in the world. This literally feels like a hijacked Evil Dead screenplay. Like to the point where Raimi could get a cease and desist.

Just a hilarious amount of work to not be a mummy movie.

I didn’t hear that! That true?

I ordered a T-bone steak and you brought me orange chicken. Huh?

Like, THE MUMMY is so much of an Evil Dead movie I don’t know how Cronin got away with it at another studio lol.

LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY: If you wanted to make another Evil Dead movie, why tell people you’re making a mummy movie? Weird choices all around. Nasty stuff at times, no doubt, but feels overall like a betrayal. Did they use the wrong title by accident???

Overlook 2026 Review: EXIT 8 is a Liminal Oddity That Works - Daily Dead How countless video game adaptations rich with harvested lore fail miserably, while a brain-teaser walking simulator becomes a trippy psychological thriller? Genki Kawamura's Exit 8 stays faithful to ...

This week is nothing but catch-up, including an #Overlook review for one of their opening night specials, EXIT 8.

A pretty fine adaptation of KOTAKE CREATE's strangely liminal walking simulator!

Yeah, I reaaaaally wasn't enthused about the end of 6. Until 7, it was my least favorite finale but otherwise solid!

4 for me just has enough time to breathe. 2 & 3 and are straigh sequels, where 4 has SO MUCH more to say about the genre at that time.

Ok but I've never had Habit and not to pivot but I also think In & Out is overrated. Now I have to try Habit hahaha.
