Q: If I apply for EI sickness benefits, do I have to quit my job?
A: No. In Alberta, eligible workers can take up 27 weeks off work for medical reasons. In most cases, you cannot be terminated for taking time off to recover or heal from illness or injury, including a physical or mental health condition.

If you have applied for EI sickness benefits, you should not quit your job.
