I dont know much about non-tetrapod anatomy, so below i'll thank everyone who coached me and helped me make this commission accurate within what we know of it !! ↓↓

Thank you!
Took quite a few attempts to get right! A few sore fingers and eye strains later, I am satisfied with the fur, but next time I want to clean it up a bit and make it more cohesive.

Id like to note that W. alcootaensis is the biggest and youngest of the Wakaleo species, the size of an average leopard! They have more ground adapted anatomy, and alot of converging traits with Thylacoleo sp., despite the 2 Genuses diverging around late oligocene early miocene!

Some days ago I made a thread on Pleistocene crocs in honor of Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age, and now I'm bringing it here too.
Let me prefice this by saying that I of course understand their absence, obviously more unique fauna takes priority and I don't begrudge the team their choice

My total inspiration for the themes and composition is just classical naturalist illustrations so I can totally see why you would want to do that! I plan to redo this painting sometime in the future, but I'll focus on other animals for now!

Those would be lovely to see, hopefully the exhibition opens up again soon. One of my art units from my recent Cert. III was about getting commissioned, there is so many little meticulous details and assumptions both the client and the artist need to make, it was suprisingly difficult!

Even when I correct myself I'm still wrong, Im such a twit! Sorry Gabriel . 🙏

Yes! I have been reconstructing w. alcootanesis with the help of Adam Yates, just with the skull so far. I have measured the P-C Material, and I plan on doing a full skeletal when some other potential referred P-C material is described. I will post the skull and some prelim illustration wips soon!

Oh true! Didn't even notice that, thanks for pointing out! Yeah, the head is very nice, I'm currently working on a Wakaleo alcootaensis illustration so this has been a good inspiration of reconstruction style.

A lovely blog to read in the morning with a cup of tea. Very nice. I think Gabriel Ugeuoto's reconstruction is perhaps my favourite, aswell as it stands up to date with the recent phylogentic paper, being so, well, koala-like!

Thylacoleo, the Incredible Marsupial Lion — Tetrapod Zoology Among the most striking and interesting of extinct mammals is the so-called marsupial lion of Australia, or Thylacoleo carnifex …

One of my favourite #Pleistocene mammals - and, yes, it has a role in #PrehistoricPlanetIceAge - is the big predatory marsupial #Thylacoleo. Here's an introduction to this fantastic animal.... tetzoo.com/blog/2025/11... #marsupials

The Brown Honeyeater is a local species to my home, a common, "drab" (I beg to differ), beautifully voiced bird.

A scene I did of Miocene Amazonia for a commission: an early Iniid River dolphin catches a frog right before a greedy arapaima does while Stirtonia-like monkeys hoop and holler at the commotion! Pretty interesting concept I must say. 🇧🇷
