It's things like this is why you're seeing more Value Vintage, Pauper, and Premodern cropping up in local communities and game stores.
Getting one person into a Pauper (for example) is still something to take away and is a sign of growth, Paupergeddon wasn't built overnight etc, etc.
Absolutely loved meeting everyone and jamming games! Truly a delight!

Sure, a card can do that. However a lot of cards exist and for every commander that spikes a random card multiple commander decks get printed that keep a lot of cards down or tank cards we didn't have access to. Additionally, if a card spikes $20 dollars you as a player just made money!
