I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

An infographic showing two balance-scale diagrams comparing brain states. The top section is titled “Brain Power in Zone 1 & Zone 2: Growth Zone” and shows a balanced scale labeled “Balanced,” with arrows indicating working memory, information coming in, and brain power/energy (cognitive load) in equilibrium. The bottom section is titled “Cognitive Overload Zone 3: Brain is Frozen” and shows a tilted, imbalanced scale labeled “Imbalanced,” with notes indicating too much information coming in, working memory overloaded, and the brain overloaded or frozen due to cognitive overload. Made by Teacher Katherine Effremkin and shared by Edutopia.

Let’s pause and reflect 💭 The end of the year can feel like a sprint… but what if we slowed down + honored what worked? What made you feel proud as a math teacher this year? ✨ You’ve grown — your students have too. That matters. 🧡

"My tip for boosting student engagement is to NEVER respond 'yes' or 'no' to any student answer. ALWAYS ask the rest of the students, 'What do you think of _____'s answer?' It works every time." —Educator T.J. Jemison

The American Bar Association has grave concerns about today’s decision to immediately end most of the government-funded legal services program for unaccompanied children. This program provides legal representation to more than 26,000 migrant children, who are in or have been released from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement custody. Providing services to these children helps them navigate complex immigration court proceedings and allows them to understand their legal options, while also protecting them from being trafficked, abused, or exploited in the United States.

+1 on depending how they’re used! Also the age of students and what other study / organization skills you might want to build. In grades 3 and 4, I loved a notebook. Parents knew there was one place to see all the learning happening and kids could go back to review previous concepts quite easily.
